The strange thing about this engine is I had to use the arrows on the pulley to get the thing to fire. It rather blew my mind. The engine with this setting is running fine. Compression checks good also. Timing right, power is good. It’s such a strange oddity I was curious if anyone had seem this before. I can’t figure out how this could have happened! Hey thanks for your website. I have used your instructions on the D-check mode and clearing the ECU. Great job!

93wagon replied to 93wagon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe engine is a '93 EJ22 SOHC 2.2L N/A. There are two marks on the cam pulleys/Sprockets. A small notch on the rim and an arrow on one spoke.

Question? I have recently replaced my worn EJ22 engine(264,000mi) with a junkyard used engine. I have always used the small marks on the rim of the cam pulley to set the timing belt. On this engine I had to use the large arrow that I had thought was the valve lash adjustment mark. Has anyone experienced this oddity? Engine runs great! Go figure! Looking for insight.
