  1. Have read many of the posts in this forum over the years and it's always proven useful and informative....helped me out quite a few times figuring out the issues... This last issue surfaced as I was changing the plug and wires earlier today - thanks to the posts I knew what to take apart to get to the plugs and was done much quicker than anticipated. When removing the wire boots on plugs # 1 & 4, both were coated in engine oil - and so was the external part of the plugs, not sure if there was oil inside the boots before I pulled them out or if the plugs were just coated as a result of removing the boots. Not sure if this is indicative of any issue to watch for or fix as my searches did not yield similar problems... After taking care of a few codes (O2 sensor, misfiring in #4) by replacing sensor and a new set of wires and plugs (OEM and NGK as recommended here), engine is running smooth and no other signs of issues (no oil dripping from car, not visible signs of burning oil) 2001 Legacy L Wagon Manual 160k Patrick
  2. For a few days now, the ABS light comes on when the car is started and doesn't go off...no recent work done on the car...front pads and rotors where replaced in October (fluid lines weren't open) and had been working well ever since. Also noticed since the light came on that the brakes appear softer than they were. Car is a Legacy Wagon '01. Any idea what could trigger the ABS light to stay on? I've done a number of searches but couldn't find anything similar... Thanks, Patrick
  3. Thanks! Perhaps I should also have indicated that accompanying the initial issue with the warning light coming off with ~ 1/3 of the tank full, the gauge wouldn't go past the 3/4 mark when fillling up and would then show empty when the light would go on.... this last time the gauge didn't go below 1/4 full...
  4. I've been reading the various posts on this forum regarding the fuel sending unit issues and I'm wondering if what we experienced with our 01 Legacy can be attributed to those units before going in and cleaning them... We've been running our car with known sending unit issues for the past 2 years where we still have between 175 and 200 km left to go when the fuel indicator light goes off. All of a sudden last week, my wife ran out of gas with the gauge indicating over 1/4 full... Is this likely to be the same root cause that some cleaning of the units should fix or is it more likely that one of the unit (or something else) suddenly stopped working and should be replaced ? Thanks
