  1. You are definitely right regarding the money part of it. I am slightly lacking the financial ability to do much of anything right now... Just moved a couple weeks ago and started a new job the exact same week = broke for the coming month or two. I have the GL-10 turbo sedan and it is going to be my daily driver if I can get it running again. After that I hope to either modify it or get a newer Suby to work on. I thank everyone again for giving me a bit of a better perspective on what I was trying to ask. Definitely keeps me from digging too deep into a project and getting myself buried instead. Not what I want to do at this point... Thanks again. So in final note.. Anyone have a newer Suby with the 5 spd FT4WD they want to get rid of?? (that was probably a dumb question since it seems that anyone that has that wants to keep it or find more of them. lol)
  2. Why would the piston be damaged from the valve if the EA82 is a non-interference engine? Just wondering... Or have I been mistaken thinking that this whole time?
  3. Don't worry. I didn't think anything of it... I just want my car running and I welcome all comments. Even any criticism that will come. (me being the noob) lol
  4. Yes I am new here.. I have been reading the forums since my friend first bought his subaru and started on here but I haven't actually had any question or posted much until now. How hard would it be to put the manual trans in considering there isn't a clutch or anything currently in there? How hard are those to put in?
  5. Sorry about not being very specific but I am still in the planning stages so I don't really have a specific vehicle to grab parts from. But yes, I was thinking one of the newer GL-10 turbos, (88-89) that has the 4EAT and the FT4WD.
  6. The 85 I own is a turbo pushbutton 4WD automatic. I was thinking about converting it to FT4WD using a newer trans from the newer turbo sedan. I was just going to use another automatic to replace it. Hopefully that would make it easier to do the swap. The EJ engine swap was just another thought. I can't go through the effort to do the rewire on the car to make it work since I don't have the free time or the knowledge let alone a shop to do it in....
  7. The only thing is I'm not sure if repairing it would be an advantage or just time-consuming with no point... I have had the ignition on several times with the suspension bottomed out (the way it was when I bought it) and the compressor never kicks in. Everything is there but it never starts to fill the struts up. Plus the fact that the struts don't look to be in that good of condition which is why I thought about the conversion. I will have to look again to see if they are good. Thanks for the suggestion though. Is there a big difference in the ride compared to stock coil springs?
  8. Wait a minute... The 85 is a turbo. I was just wondering how hard it would be to convert my sedan, EA82 turbo from the pushbutton 4WD automatic to a full-time 4WD like the newer subies? Would that make it easier than what all you said or... ? However, what is the "first hold" switch? As for the statement about the EJ engine and an adaptor plate...? Is the EJ engine a direct bolt in replacement for the EA82T with the exception of the adaptor for the trans? Or would it be more worthwhile to swap an EJ and trans in together? Sorry for so many questions.....
  9. Is it possible to convert a 1985 GL Sedan with the ea82t to a FT4WD using the parts from a newer GL turbo that came with FT4WD? Would this be a purely bolt-in process or would it be extensive with modifications required for it to fit?
  10. Thank you. That is what I was asking... Sorry it didn't come out like that.
  11. If I did the 5-lug conversion at the same time would I have to get different suspension or could I still use the suspension from the coil-over GL?
  12. To phoenix: How much do the dealerships charge to do all of this and don't they limit things like this to newer cars? Depending, I will just do all the work myself. To suberdave: I sent you a PM regarding the suspension. Thanks.
  13. Hello, I haven't been on here for a while but I have been searching for about 4 hours and can't find the answer. Either it's not here or I am really bad at searching... Anyway, I have a 1985 GL sedan with the air suspension and it is shot. I need to know, if there is anything, what parts are a direct bolt-in replacement for the air struts to replace them with stock coil-overs? I am trying to repair this car so it can be my daily driver. Right now I'm in a Buick Regal... (Buick) I would prefer to have my Suby again... lol. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  14. The funny thing is I have and 87 I believe it is, GL wagon parked right behind my sedan! It is my parts car. It was air system but someone converted it to coil-over. I just didn't know how hard it would be to change out. So, anyone want a cheap parts car?? Near the Chehalis, WA area? BTW, thanks for the help!
  15. I can deal with that!! What donor car should I use? Just a same year wagon or sedan? Maybe my car will be on the road a little sonner than I expected it to...
  16. Do I need the strut assemblies for all four corners or just the front? Keep the flaming to minimum but I'm not exactly sure what the strut assemblies are... However I do know that I need to do something before I drive it very much. The car is sitting VERY low. The rear diff is about 1 1/2 inches off the ground at the moment. Not good for driving. I'll try to get some pics on here soon... Sorry, don't need a woman.. Just the parts to fix my car.
  17. Two words I love to hear... "easy and "cheap". Except in regards to women..
  18. Hey. I have asked about this before but at the moment I don't have the time to chase down the thread I made months ago. I have a 1985 Subaru GL with the air suspension system in it. The problem is, it is shot to hell and back. Missing air lines, slightly confused computer... Name it and there is probably a problem with it. Anyway. What all is required to convert the car to coil-over and where can I get some parts? Can I just take out a few pieces from each strut and then mount coil-over parts or do I need to completely change out the parts all together? If it is too extensive I will just do the 5 lug conversion at the same time.. Any information on how to do it and anyone who has parts to do it, greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  19. Exit 63 is on I-5 just about 15 minutes south of Centralia. The number to call is (360) 807 6365. Leave a message since he isn't always home. He will call back.
  20. Is it possible to convert a 2WD wagon to a 4WD without too much modification? Most likely a newer model, about a 95 maybe...
  21. The car is parked at my house.. I was going to use the air struts out of it for my 85 Turbo until I realized the system had already been robbed out of it and replaced with coil over suspension. All 4 tires are flat and the rims are mismatched. We think the electrical harness may be shot but we haven't done much testing yet. We are going to get what parts we can out of the interior for Bill's car, (mainly the seat height adjustment is what I think he wants). A friend of ours wants the 4WD system out of it if he can but I'm not sure if that plan is going to fall through or not. What all needs to be changed over from the turbo to the stock EA82 to make the turbo conversion a success? The ECU obviously, but what else needs to be switch over? Get back to us regarding what someone else may want off the car.. By the way, I am in the Winlock area and that is where the car is. -Bryan
  22. Hey Bill... We need to work on the car so we can take it to the meet.. lol
  23. I am trying to keep the car as factory as possible. If that is the best option I will do it. If I do go with the standard shock/struts, what do I do about the car's computer activating the air system when I activate the 4WD? Is there any way to disable that or just ignore it and let it think it is working correctly?
  24. Hey all. The noob has arrived. I have a problem with my suspension. I just bought an 85 Subaru GL with the EA82T engine and 4WD. The car has air suspension but it is bottomed out after sitting for a year. I'm not sure if the compressor is still in the car or not but I am going to check later tonight. My question is, one of the connections for the passenger side air shock is gone and I am wondering if there is a way to repair it or do I have to buy a new shock/strut? The air line is still there but the connector that goes to the compressor is gone. Any replies will help. Thanks.
