  1. On the subject of lifts.. i've been wondering about putting a 6 inch lift in the coupe, i enjoy the offroad more than onroad, hence the lift and mods to the brumby..

but i just figured a hatch would just be a better option than the coupe.

I guess that comes down to personal preference. The hatchs have a shorter arse than any other model don't they?

  2. Yes, standard D/R 4 speed, just like in the brumby's (brats)

Yea, you could certainly make one out of parts ...

I've got a Supercharged EA81 ( MR2 supercharger ) which I'm thinking of placing in it... but it's kinda nice to leave it old skool original with the twin carbs. It's got a hot cam, so it revs like mad and has such a wicked "twin carb" sound.

  3. Hey guys,

I know that most subs have there main head lights wired so they turn off with the ignition key, in fact two of mine do and one doesn't.

On my 83 brumby ute, i would like this to be the case, but it just has the standard setup currently, does anyone know of a quick and tidy way of setting up the lights to be turned off by the ignition?

  4. Well, i think i own my dream subbies...

1983 Brumby Ute ,EA82T ,5 speed AWD ,LSD ,Lifted ,28" wheels etc

Something really cool and different about these utes, plus brilliant off road.

1983 Twin Carb Coupe ,EA81 ,4 speed D/R ,LSD etc

These coupes are an absolute classic i think, I'm getting this up to the standard to race in the classic comps at Ruapuna and around NZ.

1996 Impreza HX-20, Full body kit and 17" low profiles, mint 24,000 k's

This is the shape of impreza i like the most, better than the latest i think and certainly better than the horrible "bug eye" IMHO.

I think the only other one i would go out and buy when it comes available to me, would be a 80's Hatch (prefer 83). But i can't find one for love or money in NZ at the moment. but oh yes... it will be mine!

If anyone sees one in NZ, let me know.. I want to buy it!:) any condition.

  5. Yea, i used bedliner in the back tray and in the wheel wells.

I just found the rubberised paint looked better on the outside painted surfaces of the vehicle, personal preference i guess.

I've found the rubber paint to be very durable, no scratches or chips yet after a year and i'm sure it helps with lowering road noise too.

  6. yea, i think you'd be able to pick up another turbo pretty easy, if you had a look around. but i'd only worry about that until it's a problem. just check things over first to be sure before you turn the key.

I'd say that was a good deal, for what you're getting. As long as there is not structual rust, anything is easy to fix on the cheap if you need to.

  7. I've got a picture of the Turbo Solenoid showing the connections, but it won't let me do attachments for some reason. I can email it to you if you want. The vacuum switch above it, is the switch to turn on the boost light on the dash board i think, if it's not that, then it's the over boost protection..this is something i've been trying to work out for a little while now.

  8. Well, it's a runner again.. in fact it's going better than ever, I guess it just needed to be fussed over and get a few new "go fast" toys.

Today, i strenghtened the rear diff mount with 6 mm steel at right angles.

Helps to keep it strong and give it some "impact" strength.

I also made a duct from the inner front "high beam" light (removed the light) through towards the back of the engine bay, to help cool the turbo and get a bit of fresh air to the back for the air cleaner.

You can see in the pics i've attached, i've used a internal "snorkel", taking the k&N filter (pointing away, towards the firewall) up to where the spare wheel should sit. (My 28" wheels don't fit there any more) i've used that snorkel for some time, i can easliy drive through water over the bonnet with no problem.
