  1. So with much time, smashed fingers, perminante grease under the nails, and ALOT of money later I finally have Rosey finished. She is runnin like the champ she is. I had a few minor set backs but other then that shes great! I do have one question though..... So once I got Rosey running it didnt look like my alternator was charging it wouldnt go over the 12 mark so I went and got a brand new altornator from Schucks. Put it in and it still doesnt seem to charge right.... If you try and start it up some times it wont start kinda like my starter is going out..... Any sugestions if it is indeed my start or if it could be somthing else? I traded the battery in the Beast and it did the same thing... not the batterie itself or the altornator....haha I do love throwing these problems at you guys haha you guys are great haha. Can you help a danzel in distress haha.
  2. So I got a used motor from a wrecking yard right...I get it home I rent a hoist from my uncle and I take my motor out. So then I go to put my flywheel on the new motor and it wont fit. The wrecking yard gave me a 16 instead of an 18 so Im trying to figure that out and my attention goes on the flywheel instead of the motor and I look at my flexplate and bellhousing to see if it will match up....A huge chunk of my flex plate had broke off and it was inside the bellhousing and put a whole in the side and a nice crack down the middle....I had found the source of my knocking...No metal shaving in my oil the oil was really clean so I dont think it was a blown rod after seeing the chunk of flexplate that was all torn up. So I bring the motor back tell them they gave me the wrong one...Now I need a flexplate and bellhousing sounds pretty simple two small pieces this will be an easy fix...NO I AM WRONG!!! It is not a simple fix...I happen to be the only person in the world that needs a flexplate and bellhousing NO ONE seems to have one or can get ahold of one...What am I to do now? An easy installment but hard parts to find...I get so frustrated I just wish I didnt like lil Rosey so much or else I would sell her to a wrecking yard and buy somthing else. Anyone know of where to get a flexplate and bell housing for an A/T 18hundred motor>???
  3. I think I might have a trade on a suby motor by someone who bought one with a lost title and its no good to them. Only thing wrong is a blown head gasket...no biggie easy fix so Im excited about that....The sound in my little rosey now sounds alot like a muffler or a bent fan it almost sounds like a plastic fan hitting somthing hard or vice verca. Its a real dull sound but it deffinetly somewhere in the motor has nothing to do witht he muffler although I do ned a new one because thats falling apart haha but oh well thats the least of my worries. Thanks everyone again you guys kick rump roast I really love this group so once I start working on Rosey this weekend then Ill deffinetly keep you guys updated.
  4. It almost sounds like a muffler or a bent fan kind of knocking its not real tingy its really dull
  5. That would be great...from what I have been hearing from everyone from my other post... (because I have no idea whats wrong and I dont know if its a new motor) my best bet is to get a parts car and just replace random stuff on my Rosey.... Am I wront to think I need a second opinion on weather my problem is the motor because to me "if its the motor why is it running just fine besides the noise"??? Am I wront to think its not a motor problem?
  6. So there is no for sure way to know huh? My best bet is to get a new motor or a suby for parts and just replace everything?
  7. Its me and Rosey the Rivitter again. I think I may need a second opinion on my suby Rosey. The lady I got her from said she didnt want the suby anymore because while she was driving down the freeway it started knocking. She said I could have it for free so I started it up and it was a very loud knocking somewhere in the engine. After letting her warm up the sound got really quite but when driving the sound gets louder when accelurated other then that she handels well. I dont think the lady changed or filled the oil which could possibly be a new motor if she fried it. When I took the suby over to my uncles/michanic and I checked the oil it had about a quart of oil in it, I put the half a quart of oil I had in the truck into her ran it and of course it still was not even close to being full. I have heard that my problem is a rod, I just need to change my oil and filter, a new motor, an arm, a loose piston in the arm, and somthing caught or loose in the motor and thats whats causing the knocking. I am michanically inclined I do alot of my stuff by myself by getting direction from a michanic or books or someone who has knowledge to guid me. I took auto for a long time so Im not complete auto retarded but I am no michanic so I dont know what the problem is and sadly I just dont know what to do. Does anyone have any Ideas of what Roseys problem may be I think I need a second opinion. I mean common if its a new motor that I need that wouldnt my Rosey have to be in remmision cuz she drives fine which makes me want another opinion. I have a cell phone and if anyone needs more information on the sound I can record the noise send it to my email and send it to whomever thinks that listening to the noise will help them be able to help me. Thank you again you people are great I love this group.

  9. Ok this is probably going to sound dumb to you Subie owners....I have never owned a Subaru before and when I could no longer take the rappage of gas money from my 86' Dodge pickup 3-4inch lift on 35's any longer as a commuter I looked for a fuel efficiant car. My mothers friend gave me a free car which in the short 3 days of it sitting at my uncles auto shop in a podunk town not knowing anything about subarus I grew to love this lil 83' Subaru GL 4WD A/T non-Turbo. She is such a champ she has been trying to survive for so long but she has a terrible KNOCKING and my uncle/my michanic said I need a new motor. For a free car not half bad. There is the history and here is my question... I need to know how to go about getting a subaru motor. I have explored the option of getting the same 83' motor from a wrecking yard which I have found 4 nearby which is great but I need to know if thats the best way to go. I have also heard that I can put other motors in different cars, is this true? If so what kind of motors can I put in Rosey the Rivitter? Last but not least, is there a such a place where I can get a brand new motor for my lil Rosey? Your opinions, advise, direction, and time are greatly appreciated. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!
