  1. I was talking to one of my friends last night and he is teling me that there is a problem with the release bearing. Can anyone verify this? Once again the problem is that the clutch makes a grinding noise while in gear or in neutral with the pedal released... then the noise stops when the pedal is depressed. In addition the car will not move when in gear, although I havent really experimented with this in fear of tearing up that new clutch disc.
  2. I've already played with the release fork, but im not sure if it is pulling the relase bearing; and disconnected the clutch cable. In addition I think the cable is fine, Ive seen it disengage the clutch. How can I check the cable? Any other sugestions? thanks Mike
  3. Hello all I just finished installing a new clutch and pressure plate on my 2wd 92 loyale. I ran the new clutch up to 25mph prior to finishing front end installation and saw no problems so I moved on and installed every thing else. When I was moving it out of the garage, again no problems until, clunk... the car stops moving. It sounds like the clutch is sliding and the car isnt moving... In addition the noise stops when the pedal is fully depressed. The clutch cable is adjusted properly ( I think- no certain), but i think there is a bigger problem at hand? My thought might be the release bearing, I replaced this with a new one and new clips, however when I installed it is seemed as if the clips were loose, but I proceeded anyways... Finally, I'm hoping someone can tell me what may be wrong, I hope to god that I dont have to take this apart again, it was a nightmare the first time. Thanks for your replies.. Mike
  4. Ok, I know you are all sick of reading clutch wuestions, but I guess its that time of year. Im doing a clutch as well on my 92 Loyale 2wd, non-turbo.. Ive nearly put everything back together and replaced all parts(icluding bearings and gaskets) but never machined the flywheel. In addition I have the passenger side axel and knuckle installed. Ive turned on the car and it has started up, but I ve notcied that the axle spins while the car is in nuetral... what could this be? In addition, I think the car never had a neutral set spring (maybe Ive lost it). Also what is the proper method of clutch cable adjustment. There are two different wires which hook onto the fork, I know the bottom one is the clutch cable but what is the top one and how is it properly adjusted? ------------- Mike "the sled" 92 Sube Loyale
  5. mlambie, I am doing a clutch on a 92 loyale as well.. and Ive been stuck on trying to get my transmission off the engine. I was wondeing if there is something I'm missing. Firstly, I'm trying to lower the transmisson and the car is on jackstands Ive taken off... 4 engine/trans bolts (2top, 2bottom) starter both crossmembers all electrical connections, clutch cable, shifting components etc. released the engine support bracket (on the top) and I"m wrestling with the transmission and it wont budge, I cant seem to get any seperation between the engine and transmission... Is there something stupid that I'm missing, or do you have a suggestion on how to get this tranny down... Should I jack up the rear wheels more so that the angle the engine and transmission are at is more vertical? Even when I jack the transmission up it seems like the whole engine and even the car move up a little; but I can never slide the jack backwards no matter how hard I try. thanks
  6. Ive removed the starter, and all electrical connections. In addition Ive taken off both halves of the clutch cable assembly. The bolts on the top half of the engine/trans have been removed and the nuts on the lower half have also been taken out(you can still see bolts which are sticking out but no washers). Also the crossmember is loose, and the rear half of the tranny to shifter rod and stay are out. Some new Qs... About how much do you jack up the transmission? Hoe long is the shaft inside engine? How much does the tranny weigh? I'm more or less looking for the technique you would use get this freaking thing free... Thanks for the reply Qman... Im about to go out and start wrestling with this tranny again.
  7. Hello all, My name is mike... im a new mechanic and Im trying to replace my clutch on my 2wd 92 loyale anyways, ive got everything out except the transmission. The damn thing is stuck or something. It wont slide, is there any prying neccesary? I dont want to force it incase Ive forgot something. Ive taken out the four transmission mounting bolts, and disconnected everything else my haynes book has told me. Actually Ive been having trouble getting the front crossmember completely out, the clips are rotating as Im trying to loosen the nuts which attach the crossmember to the tranny. The only thing I havent done is change the pitch on the engine and I dont have tools to change the pitch nore do I really want to move the engine. Does anyone have ANY tips for me.... am I missing a bolt? how can I get this tranny down?!!! Ive been fusterating on this for a while and I need this car to be fixed so that I can get home for christmas.... Thanks again for all your help... you guys at this site have gotten me out of jams before and Im hoping you can help again. Mike
  8. thanks a lot guys... Im still rounding up parts... one more question for now... is a through out bearing the same as a release bearing? thanks again, hopefully Ill be able to start on it friday.
  9. Hello all! This is my first post, and Im new to working on cars. I have a 92 loyale wagon, 2wd, no turbo, and was wondering if the clutch is hydraulic or dry. also how can i check it if it's hydraulic? In addition I need to buy a new pilot bearing, but haven't gotten a chance to take the old one out yet. Is the pilot bearing a sealed or unsealed bearing? Also any tips anyone has for changing a clutch such as engine support methods would really help me out.. Thnaks again, hopefully Ill be talking to you all soon... Mike
