Front struts for 99 Outback Wagon
bigtexan99 replied to ron917's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXChanged all my struts a couple of months ago. Had to cut the brackets for the ABS off the front struts and weld them on the new ones.

AT oil temp light flashing again
bigtexan99 replied to gcleeton's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the codes again. So, even after I replaced the temp sensor, I still get the code 27 which says defective temp sensor... Does that mean its just a short in the wiring harness somewhere?

AT oil temp light flashing again
bigtexan99 replied to gcleeton's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAlso, as a follow up. My AT light never starts blinking at STARTUP. It always starts blinking after the car has been in motion for a period of time.

AT oil temp light flashing again
bigtexan99 replied to gcleeton's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've had the AT light flashing for a long time in my 99 Impreza Outback Sport. After going through the code readout, the blinking lights said I had a "defective temp sensor". So, I ordered a new temp sensor, dropped the transmission pan and replaced it. It's pretty easy, just plug and play into its little harness. After about a week, the AT light started flashing again, with no apparent reason. Sometimes it starts flashing after 3 minutes, a couple of months ago I drove from Texas to Florida and back and it never blinked once. It blinked yesterday. I put the AT light in diagnostic code output again, and now its spitting out code " 1long, 1long, 7 short" which means code 27. What is code 27 for again?

Master Brake Cyclinder - 99 OBW
Just a fyi, my master cyclinder went out on the OBW and replacements are far and few between. So, if you are planning on replacing yours anytime soon, allow some time to get the part. Even the dealer said it would take a week or more to receive it. Ended up buying on the intenet from somebody in Delaware.

99 OBW - smell of transmission fluid
I park my OBW in the garage, so I can tell that there are no leaks, at least nothing leaking enough to drip on the floor. However, when I get home and get out of the car, I can always smell transmission fluid. The fluid level seems to be holding steady. Anyone else have this issue? Thx

Using the storage space below the radio for a 2nd unit - 99 OBW
bigtexan99 replied to bigtexan99's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's not actually a stereo. It's a in dash VGA touch screen that I want to mount. Here's a link to one on ebay: Search on item number 300002248561 I'm going to mount a port replicator for my laptop in the car, have not decided where yet. Then, I will have a touch screen available to interface to the laptop. this will allow me to use the screen as a GPS tracker, as well as stop next to any Starbucks to check my email. Can also be used as a DVD monitor.

Using the storage space below the radio for a 2nd unit - 99 OBW
Is there a way to install a 2nd single DIN radio unit in the space below the existing radio? Anyone have a kit, or mounting info?

Water in my rear differential
bigtexan99 replied to bigtexan99's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe vent tube is on top of the rear differntial, between the differential and the underside of the car. That is a good point about the bad seal, but my mechanical advisor felt that it was leaking because there was excess fluid (water) in the differential that was forcing it out the seal. Like I mentioned, opening the top plug, which is how you check the level resulted in about 12 oz being spewed out. On a 'normal' differential, you should be able to remove the plug and the fluid is right at that level. So the theory is that the leak was caused by excess pressure. I'm driving to Florida tomorrow to watch the shuttle launch, so I will keep an eye on it to see if it leaks, or if the leak has stopped now that the pressure is reduced.

Water in my rear differential
Today I was under my 99 OBW and noticed a little fluid leaking at the rear differential. Seemed to be coming out of the spline seal. Decided to pull the fill plug and check the level of the rear differential oil. Imaginge my suprise when about 12 oz of milky white gear oil came pumping out!! Went ahead and drained and replaced the diff oil. Turns out, the last time I put my boat in the lake I must have backed up to far, allowing the differential to be submerged and water to enter through the vent tube. So if you regulary back your ride into the lake.... you may want to check your differential fluid. Steve

Use OEM roof rack for bike?
bigtexan99 replied to mtmra70's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSounds pretty reasonable to me! I like innovation that does not cost a lot of money. How much are those little bike clips?
