  1. I've got an 04 forester xt. My engine light comes on when I'm on the freeway for an hour. I am told it is my o2 sensor and that I could maybe turn this off but for some reason I can't use my cruise control. WTF?
  2. So my check engine light has been on for a while and I am told that it is my o2 sensor. I am also told that this is not a major concern. How much does it matter? How an I turn it off? How does this affect my cruise control? Any thoughts?? or suggestions....
  3. Well I was missing a belt and I successfully replaced on my own. First car repair of that sort for me. I am very proud.
  4. So I looked at it and there is only one belt on the front. i picked up a belt and will be trying to do this myself. I don't know much about it but it seems like a pretty easy task. Any tips? I am not even sure if i've got the right tools.....
  5. Also I know that my battery is suspect the alternator is fine I had that checked this winter. Where might I find some of these belts that are mentioned. i guess i should just take it in tomorrow.
  6. I mean the em brake light is on. not the brake tail lights. I am gathering form this that I should try to get addresses as soon as possible. huh. I hope to drive it another day and then leave it with a shop as i will be traveling soon. Although i could try to have it taken in tomrrow am if the shop has an opening. I really don't want to drop more than 4-7 if possible 7 seems steep. but I have to do some errnads. now.
  7. Well another time for me to sink some dough into my 98 legacy. On my way to work this morning after sitting at a stop light my battery light and brake light came on . My power steering seems to be out of wack. I can drive 'fine' but at low speeds I have to really crank on the wheel. I have checked the power steering reservoir and it seems fine. ( I don't really know how to tell if it is low) The thing is for the past couple of weeks I have been noticing a clunking as i turn right. I assumed this was my cv boot or something and that it could wait for a bit. Well now this situation has come up and I wonder why those two lights would suddenly come on. I guess I'm just looking for some clarity or peace of mind. I figure i will have to take it in to get it addressed. I wonder if it might be a line or something else since the reservoir looks full. Is there any chance for a quick or inexpensive repair suggestion? Thanks all
  8. I recently had some clutch work don and now the pedal sticks to the floor. Once I nudge it with my toe it snaps back in to place. I had this happen before and feel that there is a simple fix for this. It is a cable clutch to th best of my knowledge. any suggestions
  9. Out of curiosity. What might this tun $$$ wise at a shop, maybe like a goodyear dealer place or something?
  10. Sounds scary I have to drive it at least once more to get home. Then I can take it in tomorow. I'm just looking for some ideas. thanks. fortunately I have a manual so I can down shift to control speed and then jam the brakes if needed.
  11. it may be too late to check for fluid onthe ground. as I've moved the car at least three times. The odd thing is that when I am at low, parking lot speeds the brake pedal is firm and does not go all the way to the ground. It is the same way when the car is stopped at a light or before leaving a parking space.
  12. I also noticed a bad smell. kInd of rubbery I guess. i had hoped ti was the cars in front of me last night but when I got in my car this morning the smell was still there.
  13. Last night I let my clutch out while in gear and bumped my car into a wall. As I made my way home I noticed that my brakes didn't work as they ought to. I now have to press the pedal all the way to the floor to get the brakes to work and wen I do the car seem to pull to the left. I'm concerned that i have a big problem ahead. Is it possible that my brake fluid is low and i just need to add some. the brakes seem to work when i to press the pedal all the way and I even notice the ABS kicking in so some things seem to be working properly. Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks
  14. Where are these things located. I am planning on getting a new battery tomorrow. I really hope this is the only problem. I don't know a whole lot about where parts are in a car. Those things seem to work but Ihaven't tcleaned the connections yet. There has not been a click until the fifth or so attempt to start it. How much would it cost to have that sh*t done?
  15. So i jumped with no problem. Drove about 8-10 blocks. Then I went to switch keys so I could leave it idle for a bit but I had no success. It is dead again. I think I can go get a battery and throw it in easily enough if I can get it started again. A battery is no big deal to put in.
  16. Hello UMSB. I've received good advice here in the past so I'm trying here first. I own a 98 Subaru legacy which is very soon becoming a huge money sucker. About a month ago I had the engine replaced due to a blown head gasket. The engine has roughly 81-82K miles on it. I drove it to and from work with no problems yesterday. This is about 25 miles round trip. I drove it around neighborhoods atopping it and starting it often as I ran errands. Now I go out this morning, turn the key and nothing. Simply nothing. There is a slight electric buzz and the stereo and lights work but not a spark and nothing close to even a crank or turn. I have absolutely no idea how this would happen. Sure it was kind of cold here last night but I have not had any problem starting this car in the past. I may try to jump it but I don't think that will do anything since there seems to be no firing. What do you all think?
  17. all I really know is that it isa 98 legacy wagon l series. I believe it is six cylinders. I can never rember if it is 2.5 or not but I'm inclined to say it is; why does it matter? Can I get to work tomorrow if I put more oil in?
