  1. where did you guys end up going? would it have been ok for stockies? Im doing a 2.2 swap on my wagon right now so all we have is our stock 91 loyale- can't convince the girlfriend to let me offroad her 79 brat, and my 76 brat is not road-ready- need to find some doors for it.
  2. thanks but I finally found something about it in the service manual (luckily)
  3. I need to double check because something still seems off. where are the ignition timing marks supposed to be lined up on crank in relation to where the distributor's supposed to be pointing when setting up the ignition timing?
  4. looks like im not going anywhere tomorrow. i'm up to my ears in a 2.2 swap on my GL and was going to try to get it done by tomorrow (which it probably will be) but on the other hand, I'll prolly have to sleep some come 7 tomorrow am. Also Crooked's like 3 hours from me. but have some fun!
  5. went through it all again today to check the distributor for water down deep. found that the rotor got somehow stripped and now spins on the distributor shaft. also have tons of plastic and metal shards inside the distsributor. this is probably my problem- that and major flooding while trying to start it.
  6. inspected tightened and verfied the timing was set correctly.
  7. one thing I noticed soon before this happened was that the accelerator was sticking. After I'd killed the battery trying to restart it, we towed it home and parked it. next morning when I went out to check it, there was gas dripping down the center of the carb- that's why I rebuilt it.- like something was stuck causing it to flood.
  8. I have this 85 GL 4x4 and it runs great all the time. I was out wheeling testing some of my mud/water precautions (Snorkel for airbox and snorkel for distributor) and the car was running beautifully. Was coming down the homestretch splashing through some puddles and the car turned off. Gave it gas, but nothing would work. Tried to restart and got lots of backfiring. Pulled the distributor cap- it was wet so I dried it and put it back on but still could only sputter and backfire. Assumed it was a skipped timing belt, so took it home and disassembled- the belts were loose but otherwise the valve timing was fine. Pulled the carb (stock hitachi) and rebuilt it with a kit. Put it all back together and the car still won't run- doing the same thing as before. Installed a new fuel filter. Checked for fuel coming in and it's a good flow, also there's tons of spark at the plugs and through the cap/rotor. New Cap/Rotor and it will putter putter, glub and backfire but will not run for more than a few seconds at a time (that's only sometimes) One thing I noticed was looking down the #2 & 4 spark plug holes it seems like there's fluid in there. Dipped a cotton string down- gas. Any ideas on how to fix my baby or at least what's wrong with it. When I crank it over for a long time, fire shoots out of the top of the carb..
  9. hmm well maybe we'll just meet ya guys anyways, and see what it looks like. what time and where? safeway in Scapoose? Let me know. My car might not have tons of clearance but I had it in 4 feet of water/mud the other day- the snorkel works great!
  10. how beware do we have to be with stock vehicles? is the problem just mud or is there more? Please let us know because we are interested, but none of us have our lifts on yet. thanks.
  11. Well, with us for what? The wheelin in Naselle (near long beach) or the Clatskanie/Scapoose area?.. could just do separate get togethers.. some of us could go to areas near here, and some could go further south or something. Whatever. I'm always up for wheelin fun on days off. Note, if coming up here, gas up in pdx. 2.53/gal Arco there.. 2.7x Everywhere in Astoria
  12. actually, if you are going out west pdx like towards tillamook, it's 2.25 hours exactly (going the speedlimit or less-) speedo's about 55 all the way after hillsboro on 26, and it's a straight shot. I tend to go about 50 the whole way and it takes me 1 hour 45 to Astoria then another 1/2 hour to get out here... so if you're a speeder, it's much faster, my gf makes it in like 1.5 hours >shrug< What 's TSF anyways? I don't really know much about OHV's we just have woods here and lots of it. Still, I'll do Clatskanie or Scapoose or something that way.. only about 45 mins for me.
  13. do you live out here? ever been up to radar? theres lots of good stuff there and an isolated campground on a lake as well.
  14. no way I can go there.. salem and down that way's like 3-4 hours from where I live in SW washington. was hoping for something more SW Washington/NW Oregon.. Scapoose is about the furthest my roomie, girlfriend and I could go.
  15. Yeah, I wanted to go to the Oregon trail rally as well, but dunno.. wheeling sounds lots of fun after a winter of not having a good car.
  16. how bout up by our house in Naselle, WA. there's mud but not too much.. logging roads, river xings, hill climbs, powerlines and other stuff, and lots of people to pull you out.. it's 1.5-two hours from pdx.. my g/f makes it in about 1.5. i make it in about 2.0 at speed limit or below.. mapquest to: Upper Naselle Rd. naselle. wa. 98638
  17. thanks for the info. one of the junkyards in portland actually holds all subarus for me and my girlfriend- calls us when they come in so we get the pick of hte litter or if we want to buy a whole car before it goes into the parts bin so it shouldnt be hard to find. do they say weber on them?
  18. we're about 2 hour away if you go via astoria, 1.5hours if you go via longview. we're 50 minutes from longview, and there's quite a bit of potential around here- miles and miles of good logging roads and mud and everything else for Subaru fun.. three definates here if we dont have to drive far, otherwise two. (and it's clatskanie, in case you care.)
  19. Can I remove all the emissions crap and other extra vacuum lines from my 85 GL's carb? I.E. Charcoal Canister, Duty valves, all that extra junk? I live in the sticks so we have no regulations, but will it adversely effect the way my baby runs?
  20. The trap idea is one I have been toying with- like a little P trap or something with a drain plug at the bottom..
  21. If you have a machine shop at your disposal and know how to weld and cut, it's not that big of a deal. My kits took about a day to design and another half day to copy. no biggie. Still, if you're just a guy with a wirefeed innershied and a 4inch angle grinder, buy the kit.
  22. Sounds good to us if I can find a way to keep the water out of my carburator. Last night killed it again. We're about 45 mins from Tillamook. Scapooose is good, but here's good too and we could camp at our farm and have a bonfire or something- we're on a river.
  23. I'd be interested. My girlfriend and I live in Naselle near Long Beach. We have tons of trails and mud and hillclimbs within 10miles of our house. Also, River and creek Crossings and other fun stuff. I'm sure our roommates would like to bring their 84 GL as well. Where's Near Here?
