  2. Ok, so I'm about to have the Alternator tested. I took the shielding off the white guy, and there's an inline spit. In actuality - the alternator portion (also white) is spliced take-off from the MAIN white line which disappears into the front clip and APPEARS to veer left (Dvr Sd) .... anyone know where THAT goes?

  4. Helps a little - I am pretty sure it's the highest rated link of them all - meaning, the most juice can flow thru the black one before it blows ... which is probably BAD for me, hehe!
  5. Okay. Before I start ... I admit - I'm a dork. I shouldn'tadunnit: So - that's out of the way. But I did. I just need to know what do do from here: '90 Loyale EA82 non-turbo. Fusible link. The one towards the firewall (the black one) popped while I was heading down the expressway about a week ago. I didn't have another one, so I (gulp) 'made one' out of some romex to get me home. OK OK! I KNOW!! But that's not the end of the story. I got home No one could get them but the Dealer. 5 Day lead time. So I paid my $13 and went on my way ... tick tock. Drove around ALL WEEK, no problem. All around town. 30-mile trip on expressway. And back. No problem. Couple days ago, it happened: Was on Expressway again - and POW! No power, no nothing ... fusible lin.. uh oh ... wait! Pop the hood, check out the situation - I had stuffed the ends of my romex (14 ga) into the sleeves of the clips of each end of the fried black fusible link. Anyway, something shorted, and heated up the wire enough to melt the black cover a bit AND cream the lower wire that feeds the fusible link body. Ouch. (I KNOW!!! I KNOW!!!). So what did I do? If COURSE! I bypass the bottom of the body of the fusible link! (I mean ... what wold YOU do!?). I snipped the wire (white), stripped it down, and wire-nutted it to some more romex, which I then fed BACK into the good side of the fusible link (the black one), and connected to it to what was left. Wire nut, e-tape, baddaboom. Listen ... I HAD TO GET HOME!!! And .. I made it home. Called the dealer. "Nope not in yet - maybe tomorrow" ... I had ONE MORE TRIP to make! Driving around down was no problem. I think this might have to to with RPM, but I'll shut up with my theories. Anyway, I was driving to the airport on the expressway last night, and POW!! Out for the count. No problem - pop the hood, check it out - yep: same thing. Running out of what's left of that side of the fusible link, so (gulp) ... direct connection. Right from the Romex to the terminal. solid connection - good contact. Put the key in, fired right up! Wooo! Wrong. 2 minutes down the road, POW! But this time, smoke. This time, small little special fire, made especially for me. Romex on fire. Glowing. 650 amps glowing. I did NOT make it home ... I KNOW!! I KNOW!! I shouldn't have done it! I KNOW they're there for a reason! I needed to get home. Yes, I walked. I've paid my punishment - I'll probably walk back, too. Wring Schematic - Where does the wire go from the black fusible link? it's wrapped with a number of other wires and heads towards the alternator. It's a pretty beefy wire, relative to most braided copper under the hood. And the most important question - USUAL SUSPECTS for the cause? Even tho I probably created a few more suspects, I know (yeah yeah, rub it in). Assuming it's still sitting there abandoned along the side of the expressway, what should I bring? RIP? (go ahead ... let me have it!) I did the same thing when I was a kid on the lake (hmm .. ice hasn't broken yet - looks pretty thin tho ... maybe just a couple more steps ...)

  7. Northwet - it's the same noise level (normal) in about all speeds. The blower has never been a speed-demon. It either works totally normally, or not at all (and we're talking the fan). ruparts - that's weird that you have just about the same thing, just the opposite. I can't figure out if that's worse than what I have ... I kinda think it is, maybe. hehe!

  9. I have a weird one ... maybe. '90 Loyale wagon 1.8 stick non-turbo. I have an intermittent fan issue. It sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. At first, I kinda thought it was random. It stated last year, towards the end of the winter. I started to notice that every once in awhile, the fan just wouldn't work - not in any speed. Other times, it would. No biggie. Minor inconvenience - end of the winter & all, right? And all summer, I don't really think it worked. I never really noticed one way or another - A/C has never worked, so it's not been even needed. But this Fall, I kinda started to realize that it was going to be an issue. By October, it was getting cold - and after awhile, I started to notice a pattern with the fan, which I THINK might help figure it out. The fan either works or it doesn't. And if I had to take a guess, I'd say it's gotta be heat-related. If the car sits out all night, the fan'll start running within about 10-15 seconds when I start. The fan almost NEVER starts-up right away. It's those juicy few moments of anticipation that makes this so much fun hehe! Once the car is warm, however, that's it - no more fan after that. If I get get up in the morning & go out to start him up, the fan kicks-in, and I'm nice & warm on my way to my destination. But once I turn it off, that's it - probably for the day. Any other time I start the car after that, and nothing. No fan, no heat, and BRRR!! ... no matter how many times I do it during the day, the likelihood is that I'm not getting any fan action. This is I would say 90% accurate on both sides of the equation - 10% of the time, the fan will NOT work in the morning, even when dead-cold, and 10% of the time the fan WILL work after it's warmed-up. Any ideas? THANKS!

If you have crappy running, reduced compression, and fouled plug ... You're sounding like me: "Screw it - let's replace the motor!"
  11. Dude ... dud you ever check the timing difinitively? Last year, when my '90 Loyale snapped a belt, I ended up pulling the heads & rebuilding them because I was getting the same problem (bad compression) when I put it back together the way I thought it was supposed to be ... and it turns out I DIDN'T HAVE TO! This really sounds like a timing problem. I'll see if i can find the thread ...
  12. But but but ... the can said "Structural Foam" haha! Yeah - I was hoping just to keep water out of the cabin, but I couldn't even accomplish that. I did a search but couldn't find other threads where people had done this repair - any idea which keywords to use in the search string?
  13. Okay, so instead of waiting for "Um, YES, Davalos, you moron - we need pics!"... This is the rear passenger floorpan after only about 10 minutes on the road. It's all coming from the upper left side of the pic (under the plastic by the rear passenger door) - you can see the road sand building up there - anyway, it pools in the upper part there, and when WHOOSH! when you put on the breaks. This is my (ahem!) "fix" that I thought might do ok ... but it didn't. Anyway, it tells you where the hole is, in case I didn't describe it well - I'm sure a lot of us out there know this one. ... Man, now that I think about it ... that expanding foam is gonna make welding SUCK if I end-up having to! hehe! Me & my big ideas! ...
  14. That music was the sound of impending doom ... death ... I noticed water in my rear passenger’s floorpan the other day when driving in the rain. Got it on the lift and took a peek around the bottom and found a big-assed hole in front of the rear tire in the rear well, directly above and in-front of what looks to be like a torsion bar mount, but I'm sure it's not. I’ll see if I can et some pics, but my guess is this is common enough that I don’t really need to show them. I can get 3-fingers in the hole on the passenger’s side, and with ONE finger, I MADE a hole in the identical spot on the driver’s side, so if I can do it with my finger ... it's kinda bad. Between the 2 places, I shot about a can of expanding foam as deeply as I could into the cavities. Sadly, this didn’t work as far as keeping the water out of the passenger floor pan, but I'm sure it made my car quieter . I haven’t torn out the plastic from above the rocker and the rear well from the inside, but I’m 100% sure that’s where it’s coming from. So, aside from the question of “is it fixable”? … the question is more “is this the beginning of the end”? This car has been very good to me, and has served me well, so if it had to be the End, then I would walk away still proud to having been a Soobie owner. At the same time, I have been very good to IT, and I do have a lot of investment in it – I don't mind investing more, so long as it's not throwing good money after bad. I have seen a few threads about fixing rust when it starts to get too bad, but my general experience is that It’s uaually a losing battle. It's a work vehile - not something I cruise for chicks in (not that there are chcks out there who say "Wooo! Check out that Sexy Loyale 2WD!!! I'm getting sooo wet!...", but keeping water out is kinda important ... Whatayall think? Need Pics?
