  1. DO NOT drive with the fuse in, it is only intended for diagnostic purposes. I drove with the fuse in for a few days, and everthing was fine, then one day my car would not go faster than 10-15 mph, had I known at the time, I would have just pulled the fuse out, but I didnt so I had it flatbedded home. Get the CLUTCH PACK replaced and you should be fine. 91 sedan Auto. AWD 110k 93 Wagon Auto. AWD 221k 94 Wagon 5-spd. AWD 216k
  2. I had the same problem on my 91 AWD Automatic sedan with 110k miles on the tranny, and had the clutch pack replaced for $350. Now she is as good as new. No more binding and power transfer is great. Hope you can find a good cheap subaru mechanic to do it for you.
  3. Are all generation one Legacy AWD Automatic trannys compatable from year to year. I feel my auto tranny in my 91 AWD sedan is on its way out, and I hate the way it shifts, compared to my 93 AWD Automatic. I would like to find a 93 or 94 automatic AWD to swap in. Would it be a simple bolt up or would their be other issues to deal with. This tranny really sucks the life out of the engine, which only has 27k original miles on it (got it out of an old mans car which was wrecked) Tranny has 110k on it. Not to mention the tranny has the notorious clutch binding which comes and goes but is happening more frequent now. The car is in great condition for a 91, no rust, shiny paint, only a few dings, so its worth keeping. Thanks for the inputs.
  4. I have a 93 Legacy Wagon which has 120k on the motor and over 200k on the body. I installed the engine with 70k miles back in Oct. 01 and have been running nothing but the Amsoil Synthetic 0W-30 and the car runs better than most newer subies. I dont know where you get your info from about not using a thinner oil in the summer. My engine speaks for itself. Ive owned 7 subarus from early models to late models, and have never had a problem with the Amsoil OW-30 synthetic. Besides, its good for 35k miles, but I change it twice a year. My car purrs like a kitten.
  5. Im sure everyone would want one, but for those of us who can afford it, ENGINESRUS on ebay is auctioning off a Legacy JDM EJ20 2.0 Twin Turbo engine, rated at 250HP for a buy it now price of $1,395. Imagine the ultimate sleeper Legacy Wagon.
  6. Go with the Denso's. I put them in my 93 Legacy AWD Wagon, and their fantastic. Increased throttle response, fuel mileage, and overall performance. Cant beat them!
  7. I forgot to mention that the cable only makes noise in the Winter when its real cold. I just noticed it this winter for the first time, because I bought the car in Oct. 03.
  8. My Speedometer cable in my 94 Legacy Wagon makes loud noises when car is cold and for about 5-10 minutes before everything warms up. Im guessing thats what it is, because the noise is coming from the top left corner of the dash, and the speedometer needle jiggles a bit when its making noise, but returns to a steady position once the noise stops, which is once the car has warmed up properly. Is there anything I can do, to stop the noise, and will it get worse otherwise. I have 215k on the odometer. Thanks for the replies. 91 Legacy AWD Sedan Auto. 109k miles (only 25k on engine) 93 Legacy AWD Wagon Auto. 220k miles (only (120k on engine) 94 Legacy AWD Wagon 5-Spd. 214k original miles
  9. I have tried many different bulbs from many sources, mostly the cheap kind on ebay for $10, but the best yet are the 5800k XD5 bulbs in either low 65W or High 90W. The site is http://www.globalpremier.com they also sell on ebay just enter XD5 in the search box and you will find what you need. I currently have the low 65W XD5 bulbs in my 93 Legacy Wagon, and the High 90W XD5 bulbs in my 94 Legacy Wagon. They are both phenominal, especially the higher wattage bulbs. They are so bright, it looks like I have my high beams on. They are a really bright white light that really lights up the road. No problems with wiring harness melting either. I have had them for several months, and all is well. Check them out for yourselves.
  10. Duane b, My last post first line was a mistake, it should read It has NOT happened in several months until recently. Dan
  11. Duane b, all four tires are the same brand and size, I havent checked the air pressure lately, but they all look similar. It does it whether its warm or cold. It had happened for several months, until just a week or two ago. I flushed the tranny and replaced the filter and went with the Amsoil Synthetic ATF 10 quarts. Then a month later I just drained out four quarts and refilled to make it even cleaner. A friend of mine recommended I do this a few times, so you can be sure everything is inside is clean and pure synthetic. It definitely shifts better than when I was using regular ATF and before the complete flush. I guess thats why it didint happen for several months. I guess I will check the tire air pressure and drain out four more quarts and refill. Maybe that will work. Tranny presently has 110k original miles. Thanks for your input and suggestions. Dan!
  12. About a year or so ago my subaru mechanic at the time told me about the front fuse under the hood. What he told me turns out to be wrong. He told me the front fuse was to be used if you wanted to drive your car in front wheel drive only during the summer time, and to improve your gas mileage. So, not knowing, I let him put the fuse in, and I drove the car for a month or so, in FWD only. Then one day the car would not go faster than 10 mph, so I had to have it flatbedded home. I took the fuse out the next day, voila! it was fine and back in AWD. It did not bind when it was in FWD only. Now it only does it occasionally like I said. It may not happen for weeks or months, then it might happen several days in row, and sometimes comes and goes when shutting the car off and restarting it. You know when its binding cause you can feel it when turning, and when you shut off the ignition with the car in park, it jerks backwards. What do you suggest.
  13. I know this subject has been posted before, but I couldnt find it. Anyway, my 91 Legacy automatic tranny is experiencing the famous clutch binding. It may go months without it happening, and then it shows up. Just yesterday I went out to pick up a pizza and it happened. Funny thing is after coming out of the pizza joint and starting up the car, it was not binding. So it comes and goes. When it is happening and you stop put the car in park and shut off the ignition, the car jerks backwards. This only happens when its binding. I have 109k orig. miles on the tranny. Engine was replaced last year, after original engine was loosing antifreeze slowly, and I was told it had a cracked block. One morning my wife drove it to work, and she calls me on my cell and says the temp. guage is all the way up. I told her to pull over and shut the car off. She says Im gonna be late for work, and that she was only five minutes away. Sure enough the car just quit on her and stopped and would not restart. So I had the engine replaced with a 20k mile engine removed from an old mans legacy which he crashed weeks earlier. Engine runs stronger than the original engine. The weak link is the tranny in the 90, 91 and early 92 legacys. My 93 legacy auto tranny shifts smoother and has 218k orig. miles on it with no problems yet. Cross my fingers! So should I expect the tranny to break down soon. I have flushed the tranny and installed a new filter and Synthetic ATF, which only smoothed out the shifting. How much would it cost to have the clutch pack fixed or replaced. Thanks for your replies.
  14. Hi everyone, I am a newbie here, and this is my first post. I need to know if a dog gate from a 95 Legacy Wagon (2nd generation) will fit a 94 Legacy wagon (1st generation). I was told by someone locally that it would fit, can anyone confirm if this is correct or not. I am in search of a dog gate for my 94 Wagon AWD 5-speed. Thanks, and looking forward to many posts. This is a great site, glad to be aboard. 91 Legacy AWD Sedan Auto. 108k (only 30k on engine) 93 Legacy AWD Wagon Auto. 218k (only 118k on engine) 94 Legacy AWD Wagon 5-spd. 214k original miles:D
