  1. That makes a big difference! Is the GL the only other model I can search for that will match?
  2. I have been searching and waiting over a year for a Brat to appear locally (Columbus, OH) so I could strip it of usable parts. I was wondering which years of GL's or Loyale's would match the front plastic bumper on the Brat? Any help or links to a parts list or something is much appreciated! I've been searching forever and today I found a bumper on ebay for an 85-86 GL. Will it mate up? Thanks guys!
  3. If it is the heater core, it's a huge PIA to replace. Have you checked to make sure the hoses aren't leaking where they meet the firewall? If one of the hoses is loose, it may leak inside the cab. Not too likely, but a possibility! Also, search the boards more...I have seen a write up with pics on how to replace the core.
  4. Tom, thank you very much!!! Those pics will help tremendously! I already figured out, by looking at them, where a bracket goes that I couldn't figure out! Tell your son I said thanks!
  5. I didn't know that was possible! I'll have to look into what parts are necessary. The laptop didn't die...the DC input on the motherboard broke free and I can't charge the battery or run power from the wall. So it sits with a dead battery and no way to charge it. I thought about buying a new battery, but that seems like a waste to just transfer data. I can get another motherboard but that an expensive fix for an older laptop too... I will go search for a USB enclosure.
  6. I'm having a bit of trouble putting the dash back in my '87 Brat... I took pics of everything but they are on a laptop that no longer works, along with every pic I have ever taken!!!!!! Anyways, if anyone has any pics of the underside of the dash (driver's side) I would appreciate it. I am trying to get an idea of where the main harness was routed and where the fuse box was mounted. I've got a couple more months of work and this bad boy should be ready to run! I took her out for a drive the other day and I've got some popping issues to work out. It's completely stock so there are some lines I want to disconnect under the hood and my rotor button is loose so I believe I am going to need to get a new bearing for the distributor...that should be fun trying to find... Also, if you have any leads on a complete front bumper and gas tank...I will need to replace these as well. I have been searching forever it seems like but all I ever get is OEM crap and OEM prices! I'm in Columbus Ohio and yet have found a junkyard that has anything that I can use! Oh well, thanks for your help!
  7. DUH!!!!!!! I'm an idiot...nevermind me! The connector was FOR the RESISTOR... I thought I had it plugged in already! DOH! Oh well, it plugged in on the driver's side of the heater core, right next to the fire wall. And it WORKS, after 21 years, 9 of which was spent in the barn in NM. Anyways, I'm getting closer...
  8. The fan control knob wire harness has two plugs... One plugs into the main harness behind the control panel and the other plug is a white 4 pin female connector. The color of the wires are (1) Red, (1) Yellow, and (2) blue/white stripe. I have my dash blown apart and now that I am putting it back together, I can't figure out where this connector goes. My fan works on high only and I figure it's the resistor block however, it could be that this connector doesn't have a home! I can fix the resistor block easy enough since there is nothing in front of it, but I want to make sure it isn't lack of connections first. I will get some pics up tomorrow if nobody knows off hand! Thanks!
  9. Hey guys... 1st - big thx to BRATMAN for sending me some bulbs for the dash! I am trying to get a new bumper for my 87 Brat... The number I got from the local dealer is: 57717GA360 I called rockuto and they show the bumper cover for this number but no bumper. Has anyone gotten a new bumper for their Brat before that can offer me some advice where to buy or even a good part number that they know is right? Thanks! Ok, I just got another number for the bumper itself: 57748GA400 rockauto wants shipping of $180!!! The part together are $120 and one of them is here in town!!
  10. I need 4 but I'll take as many as you want to part with. What do you want for them? If you PM me your paypal addy, I can pay you that way.
  11. Bratman, did you ever find any? Radio Shack was not much help. I haven't made it to another electronics store yet, but my local salvage yard didn't have anything either...
  12. thx Mike. I figured as much. Never hurts to ask!
  13. I will check Radio Shack. I didn't think of them! thx for looking Bratman...
  14. This is out of the instrument panel on my 87 Brat. I cannot find a replacement!!! Does anyone have a few laying around somewhere or have some clue as to where I could get one? Thanks! p.s. Can I replace a 14V 1.4W bulb with a 12V 1.2W bulb without any problems?
  15. I can't find a parts list anywhere online and it's driving me mad. I have an '87 Brat that I am trying to "update." I want to find an interior that will allow me to upgrade some of the features and look a little more modern. Does anyone know where I can find the specs for other models beside walking into the local dealer? Has anyone completely replaced the interior in their vehicle? Nothing is wrong with the dash panel now or any other interior parts but I want to explore all my options since I plan on returning this Brat into "daily driver" status. It would be kinda nice to "upgrade" it. Is the Brat too narrow? Anyone here work for Subaru? Thanks!
  16. I think it had something to do with reclassifying the vehicle from a car to a truck.
  17. Here are some pics of an '87 that I gutted to clean out the rat poo... http://www.childsinc.com/87_Brat/
  18. Thanks for the reply Dave!!! I will check out home depot tomorrow. I didn't get there today. And yes, I only want to do this once! I have tons o' time since this is not my daily driver, but I want it to be and so once I am complete, I don't want to have any down time trying to correct a corner that I cut.
  19. I haven't found any of the original type of material to go around the heater core or the evaporator so I did some thinking while wandering around the auto stores. Tell me what you guys think - I know y'all are kings of modification! To go around the heater core: Get a roll of metal tape and wrap the outside edges of that sucker. Or, I could use gasket material and use some high temp adhesive to stick it to the outside of the core. All this to increase efficiency and ensure the air flows through the core and not out of the top. For the places where the boxes fit together, use regular weather stripping cut to fit. For the doors inside of the boxes, use the same weatherstripping but in some cases, like the blower box - double and triple it up to get the same height as the padding that came off the doors. For the evaporator core box, there was a liner inside. I suppose this was to control moisture and keep the outside of the box from having condensation form. I can take some 1/16 gasket paper and some super tack to make a new liner. Where the pieces join at the edges and could use some silicone. What do you guys think? Sound like it should work ok?
  20. I want it to last another 20 years, of course! I've about got the core boxes cleaned up and ready for reassembly but I am stuck until I find the padding I need for the boxes and cores. What do you call that stuff anyways? It's not really weatherstripping or padding. I just don't know what else to call it. Oh well, I'm off to the AC shop and see if they can help. (crossing my fingers)
  21. Thanks for help guys!!! I think I will have to try my hand at recharging the system with the gear from Autozone. If not, I know a great mechanic here and I don't mind paying him. I did let the freon out into the air. I didn't think the system had anything in it after sitting in the barn for over 9 years! I was wrong, but it wasn't much. The line hissed for about 2 secs and then the deed was done. Does anyone know where I can get the foam that goes in the core boxes? Is that stuff really necessary. The evap box had a thin liner (padding type) molded to the box. I don't want to reuse - but is it necessary? Can I use regular weather stripping? Will it stand the heat of the heater core. I know that I have to seal off the top and bottom of both cores to make sure the air travels through the cores and not out of the top and bottom reducing efficiency. I tried Napa and Advanced but all they have is weatherstripping. I will check with an AC dealer tomorrow, maybe he'll have the stuff I need. Any ideas about the foam pieces and stripping? Oh, and about the orings?!? Is there a special type I need or size? Are all the orings the same size in the system? They are located where all the hoses connect to something, is that right? Thanks!
  22. Thanks nipper! I will definitely get a dryer then! I will also take the cores to a radiator shop for testing before I put the dash back together. I've thought about just replacing them anyway but as soon as I do, I will get the one bad core and end up taking the entire dash apart again!!!
