  1. my lifted EA82 easily got 28 mpg. my EJ-swapped loyale gets the same in the city under my lead foot. made a little road trip with our String Quartet. 4 people, instruments, and stands. usually cruising at about 60. easily saw 32 or more.

a V8 will suck more gas than a subaru motor. assuming their both running well. I dont see why you bother arguing it. especially since you obviously don't want to do it for the mileage.

easily saw 32 or more what? Sasquatches along the road?

Man I give up You MPG guys are all the same!!

  2. Thats funny that you say they suck gas!! you think the subaru gets good fuel milage? I havent seen them do that great, inless your talking older 2 wheel drive with a 1200 (whats the point with 2 wheel drive). I have owned most of them and never seen more then 26 mpg A nice V8 in a small rig does real well ( buddys toyota gets 24 with sbc 350 AT )

So maybe your point is overrated as bad as charlie brown's christmas special

As I was saying I found 26 post on here with people geting 24MPG or less with there subarus!!!!!

  3. I still don't see the point in putting V-8's in alot of things. They suck gas and are overrated as bad as charlie brown's christmas special.

  4. Yes - I have no doubt it would spin both tires in low torque situations (I think I said that ) *cough - mud*. I refered to high torque situations - such as crawling up a rock face at low speeds. If one tire is in the air, and the other against a large rock, this device would not function as a locker. A welded or spooled diff is actually even cheaper, and yet more effective.

It's still cool - no doubt about that. Like I said I wouldn't mind one for my front diff on my lifted rig, or definately on my street Brat.

And as for copying the phantom grip - they can't say anything unless you attempt to sell it. If you give them away for free they can't say anything either.

Your write need some sort of real locker please find one and tell all of us when you do Thanks

  5. Only if you're using a t-case, there isn't a way to fit a second reduction unit inside the tranny case.

Of course, if you do use a t-case, the ones that fit these cars have deeper ratios than 2:1, Samauri cases are at or right near 4:1.

Yes ,I have a nissian t case behind the transaxle, Just want to split it once more. I bought a toyota case to make a 2 to 1 spliter. just somthing about gears, want more! more more

  6. Heh, it looks like you had the same idea as me for the fender flares.

Those pics werent taken in Pasco I presume?

I think we need to get some pics of our rigs together:brow:

The second weekend in aug would be a nice time for prowling in the cascades! shoe string?

  7. NOT a locker. That's the same design as the Phantom Grip LSD units (which are overpriced IMO).

Here's someone installing an R200 version. (They sell R160's too).

    http://z31.com/phantomgrip.shtml

It's cool that you made your own, but you can't go calling it a "locker". It's an LSD, and it WILL slip given enough torque.

That said, I would love to put one in the front and rear diff of my street Brat. And the front of my wagon. I'll keep my welded rear diff for off-road tho.

It spins both tires in the mud so I guess that would suggest that they are locked up. also I did not want to throw there name out there , some people get ***************y win you make something like theres. (If you know what I mean)

  8. The beauty of the Quadrajet is that the secondaries will only open as much as the engine needs them too. I doubt the EA82 will open them up more than 25% even above redline with the rods flying out of the bottom!!

And the small primaries probably aren't much bigger than a stock 2 barrel Hitachi. Easily tuned jets and metering rods for both the primaries and secondaries make it the best fuel delivery system other than FI...if they're tuned right.

Let's see pics of the manifold and adapters you used.

    Good job:headbang:

I did not use a adapter, I built the manifold and carb plate from scratch. I only use the primary side of the carb. with the rite jets it works great. I started rich and worked my way down!!! you can get a lot more threw a Qjet then the 2 barrel Hitachi!!!!

  9. Instead of using just the primaries, wouldn't it be better to use one side of the carb and block off the other side? That would still utilize the air valve secondary and it wouldn't be difficult to do.

No way to block off the fuel to the other side of the carb, Gas would leak and then a (CATASTROPHIC ) event would happen.

  10. Do you have more Technical Info about it?

Ya , I have all the specs.

Its a 86 wagon with ea82 motor with a qjet. Fully ported heads 2" dual exhaust, Rear dif mounted in the front, Nissian transfere case behind the transaxle, 9" of lift. The motor and transaxle stayed in there stock location!!!The front diff is 6" foward and the rear diff is 2 1/2" back its running 33" pro comps 390 gears with home made lockers front and rear. I made custom lower control arms and torque bars with 1/2"x 2" steel with a 3/4" Grade 8 bolt for the pivot point and 1" stainless for the torque arm. It is fully protected under with rock bars diff to diff . And yes that is a 8000 Lbs winch with twin batterys. With 15 PSI in the tires it rides like a caddy in the woods. the jeeps and toys cant keep up without beating them selfs to pieces.DSCN2096.jpgDSCN2051.jpgDSCN2032.jpg

  11. I'd never even considered using a Quadrajet on a Subaru before. Now you've got me to thinking.........

In my opinion, Quadrajets are probably the finest engineered carburetor ever made AND they are so easy to work on and fine tune. It's amazing the range in size of engines they work well on. There are so many jets, metering rods, metering rod hangers, and metering rod springs to choose from it can be mind boggling. There were probably more Q-jets manufactured than any other carburetor so they are easy to come by.

Yes, they are great for a fabricator. I have put them on almost anything that runs on gas!!!
