  1. Looking at Drivers side, Cams are loaded (spring pressure) THEY WILL ROTATE as you release the belt. I used a buddy to hold with wrenches and slowly release spring pressure.

they will go in opposite directions about 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn. Just allow them to move SLOWLY:eek:.

    Check out this article

    It fully explains this.

One last Item Are ya replacing the Tensioner ? Because its a hydo piston that if you try to RECOPPRESS it most likely will Bend the rod. No tension on the belt, Belt jumps time, Wipes out evey Vavle in the engine:slobber:.

Might as well do Water pump and Check Oil pump bolts while your in there!!!

  2. No??? Ithought I was on the right track. I had a Subaru Tech. put Select Monitor on it, which showed FI temp sensor well in spec (it should new and replaced a week ago). But engine temp way too cool, He felt Lower hose it was cool to touch.

So I went after Water Pump and T/stat, (found rt side timing marks off 1 tooth, Car never idled & ran better now) Also I moved around relays, 2of them when put into Sub Fan Control would turn Kill always running Fan & other 2 would let fan run all the time. Well fan would cycle on after repair but never really cycle off.

As of last night, After car sat for 8hrs. Fan came on at start up, bottom hose Cold to luke Warm.:banghead: BTW Tech Look for the infamous HG, NO obvious signs of that.

  3. Thanks for replys, but NO_ONE is reading the First Post.

    I did

    ?

Its Not the relays, and its not the Coolant Temp Switch

This statement tells me you changed the fan thermo switch

The problem is the Fuel Injection Coolant Thermo Sensor.

Approx. 30 USD at the stealership

Located behind the engine block vent pipe for the PCV system.

Thats the switch I Changed, While I had the IACV off to clean it.

BTW: FI thermo sensor & Fan thermo switch are that very same switch on a EJ25 phase 1 engine.

Hope this helps, my EJ22 Legacy did the same thing.

I think I have it solved.I will post back with what I find:banghead: So that everone can benfit.

  4. Help Please, 99 OBW m/t Cooling Fan allways on ? with engine running.(even ice cold engine)

Things Ive done are : Tested and swaped around Relays under the hood, changed and tested before I installed new CTS, Good engine and body grounds. Tested Main Fan relay above fuse box inside car.

Fan will quit when Sub Control Relay is pulled. I fear ECU is going to lunch ? NO codes or CEL yet.

  5. Pleiades, thats what I narrowed it down to "an injector going to lunch". I Checked with a copule of shops and my Dealer. going rate for cleaning services are $99. to $150.

Any way Im thinking cleaning just because of mileage & age. Ive done 3 techron treatments already with some positive results, but because I bought car with 87k in Sept. 03 (now 96k) who knows what the previous owner did or didn't do?

    Some times it runs GREAT.

  6. Well After through Checks & Inspection of electrical connections, hoses, vacum lines I have made the car run 90% better. Still I minor occasional skip at idle, But not like it was and so far NO CEL.

Fuel milage up to 24.5 from 21, but this is winter time here in the Northeast, So I don't expect a lot.

When I clean the throttle body, it was preaty gummy (96K). So I belive Injectors and Combustion chambers are also. Im toying with the Idea of "Air induction and Fuel cleaning service. Like BG services. Any one want to offer Pro or Cons on this? I've done a couple of Techron treatments

  7. Here's what Ive Done or replaced for code(s) po301 & po303:

    Replaced:

Plugs, Wires, Coil Pack, now have NGK BKR5E-11 took out PFR5B-11 gaped .044

    O2 sensor upstream (front)

    PCV, Air Filter,Gas filter

    Tested:

    MAF

    TPS

    Igntion timing

    Compression

Happens hot and idleing randomly almost after engine runs, shutdown & restarted & allowed to idle for a short period.

What am I missing? Plugs look Lean . you can almost here it miss at the tailpipe, when it does it:banghead:

    Thanks for any Input

    Dave
