  1. Yea I compressed mine for kicks, but i had already bought a new one. Just because it came highly recomended by a Subie Mechanic that does this for a local deaership. He said its not worth the risk, What to say after 100k of use that it won't fail after disturbing it.:-\ The damage would cost more than the piece of mine.
  2. Tues. I traded my 99 OBW for a 2003 Honda Accord EX with 58000 on it. I'll still be lurking around here, I love Subies but couldn't pass on this Deal. Thanks to all who help me & I'll helping Others. DaveyMac
  3. Looking at Drivers side, Cams are loaded (spring pressure) THEY WILL ROTATE as you release the belt. I used a buddy to hold with wrenches and slowly release spring pressure. they will go in opposite directions about 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn. Just allow them to move SLOWLY:eek:. Check out this article It fully explains this. One last Item Are ya replacing the Tensioner ? Because its a hydo piston that if you try to RECOPPRESS it most likely will Bend the rod. No tension on the belt, Belt jumps time, Wipes out evey Vavle in the engine:slobber:. Might as well do Water pump and Check Oil pump bolts while your in there!!! DaveMac:brow:
  4. New Problem as of Last Night, When I turn key off all my doors lock. Other than that my keyless entry works ok, drivers door switch works (can't remember if its suppose to work with ING off,but it doesn't now.) Anybody else seen this before? I'm afraid of getting Locked out! Dave
  5. DITTO... OEM only on the T/stat. Factory ones are 3 stage. Same goes for the Waterpump use OEM only, or ya be doing it agian soon.
  6. Had the same issue, did all of the simple stuff first. replaced coil pack wires NGK lazer tips @ $12.00 a plug Rear O2 sensor seafomed the IACV Then adjusted the Vavles, 7 out of 8 ex. Way over tight this at 102000 mi. No more CEL po301 & po303, + 25mpg.
  7. Problem fixed, Fuse for lighter was out, wich is also power for control side of one of the Main fan relays ??? WTF. Anyway ECM saw that M. fan circuit, inop & defaults to sub run low speed all the time to protect engine. Once fuse was replaced  . Everthings COOL.
  8. No??? Ithought I was on the right track. I had a Subaru Tech. put Select Monitor on it, which showed FI temp sensor well in spec (it should new and replaced a week ago). But engine temp way too cool, He felt Lower hose it was cool to touch. So I went after Water Pump and T/stat, (found rt side timing marks off 1 tooth, Car never idled & ran better now) Also I moved around relays, 2of them when put into Sub Fan Control would turn Kill always running Fan & other 2 would let fan run all the time. Well fan would cycle on after repair but never really cycle off. As of last night, After car sat for 8hrs. Fan came on at start up, bottom hose Cold to luke Warm. BTW Tech Look for the infamous HG, NO obvious signs of that.
  9. I think I have it solved.I will post back with what I find:banghead: So that everone can benfit.
  10. Thanks for replys, but NO_ONE is reading the First Post. Fans are ALWAYS ON! Yes its having cooling Issues, Its to cool. main fan NEVER Turns Off. Anybody got any Ideas? Its Not the relays, and its not the Coolant Temp Switch. Dave
  11. Main fan runs all the time, right side fan (engine running) other, left side fan will Cycle with A/C compressor or Defroster. Main was running this AM at start up 5 deg. D.
  12. Help Please, 99 OBW m/t Cooling Fan allways on ? with engine running.(even ice cold engine) Things Ive done are : Tested and swaped around Relays under the hood, changed and tested before I installed new CTS, Good engine and body grounds. Tested Main Fan relay above fuse box inside car. Fan will quit when Sub Control Relay is pulled. I fear ECU is going to lunch ? NO codes or CEL yet. Dave in Upstate NY
  13. Thanks Josh, Metal plate is under hood on left shock tower. Anyway I'll look agian Ser#, paint code other info is there . Dave
