  1. The check engine on a 1997 legacy L comes on after driving for 3 hours or so. The car seems to run smoothly without any loss in power. Any ideas ? emissions maybe ? The next day the light is off
  2. Robcor2, I was the one who posted the message. Your help is much appreciated. 1997 Legacy L Thanks
  3. Hey, Does anyone know of a good Subaru Repair shop in or around Portland ? I hate to go to the dealer because they tend to propose more work than you actually need. Need to replace Cam seals and o-rings due to a oil leak. Thanks !
  4. Greetings, Does anyone out there know any good private Sube mechanics in the Baltimore area? For a 2001 Outback Wagon w 175,000 miles on it. It's my wife's baby. I have been very disappointed with the dealer service as I don't always have the time or tools to do the job myself. Thanks
  5. Many, Many, Thanks ! my friend You were right I did have to post. But what a great thread. And I thought I was OCD! geckolizard
  6. Greetings!, Can anyone tell me where the horns are mounted? I am replacing the "Wheenie" OEM horns with aftermarket models so people won't point and laugh anymore. I think I would rather have a Harpo Marx model instead of the factory issue. Thanks!
  7. I want to replace my sunvisor in a 2004 forester w one from 2006 that has the pull out that shields the rest of the window when rotated over by the driver's window. Will it fit as simple replacement?
  8. I put a set of B.F. Goodrich Traction TA's that are rated HR (they come SR, HR, and VR) on my '04 Forrester XT and they are great at speed, in the wet,or on the snow. I ditched the Yoko's because the traction sucked and they cornered poorly even though they were HR rated tires. The Traction TA's are very reasonable in price. I got mine from one of the online sources at $64 each, delivered.
  9. I think you made the right choice. We own a '97 Legacy Wagon, a '01 OBW,and a '04 FXT. When the weather sucks you will be glad to be driving a Subaru. The '01 OBW has 70G on it and the driver's side Head gasket was fixed under warranty at 67G, otherwise it's been great. Just "baby" your car with routine maintenence and it will be there for you. Good Luck!
  10. So, the thinking here is that Mobil 1 5W30 is too thin and that a "thicker" oil would cut down on oil consumption. I have used Rotella 15W40 in diesel tractors and they have run well. So maybe the 5W40 Rotella Synthetic is worth a try.
  11. Greetings, I bought a '04 Forrester XT in Aug. After 1,500 miles I replaced the oil with Mobil 1 5W30. After a couple of oil changes, I have noticed significant oil consumption. (A quart every 3,000 miles) Could this be due to the fact that my valves haven't seated due to insufficient break-in. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. P.S. Should I change back a conventional oil to allow them to seat? Thanks, Geckolizard
