  1. Thanks everyone for all the info. I know air struts can be a bit of a pain and I'll probably (have to) change to conventional struts someday. But the strange thing is, except for that weird thing yesterday, they're working just fine! Like this morning the car is still all the way up and I can't hear any air coming out, which means there's no major leak. Am I right? About to go on a big trip to the Austrlian outback (am based in Melbourne). Hope they don't choose this trip to fail on me. :-\ Jean PS: Thanks Crawlerdan but as you can see I'm based in Australia, so can't really take you up on the offer, I'm afraid.
  2. Hi all! Had a funny thing happen with my air struts this morning ('91 Legacy). The front of the car seemed lower than usual and I thought "Oh well, it'll come up when I start the engine." So I revved it up a bit and started driving but the front of the car would keep bouncing up and down after hitting tiny bumps. I got out and the suspension was still all the way down at the front. So I pressed the button to raise the ground clearance. Nothing happened for a while but then I started driving and it finally came up. Now, I jacked up the left front of the car yesterday to have a look under the car. Also started/stopped the engine while jacked up. Could this lead to my suspension acting up the next day? Has anyone had any similar issues and is it something to be worried about? Or is there just a sequence of jacking up the car/starting the engine that will lead to this? Any idea welcome! Jean
  3. Thanks, checked a few things based on above comments. Sway bar is fine. Dust shield was slightly dented but not enough to touch the disc. Not brakes either as sound doesnt change when using them. The front left bearing (where the noise seems to be coming from) has a minute amount of play, but barely discernible. Would tightening the nut help in any way? How tight does it need to be? Would I need to use a torque wrench or just tighten it up until play disappears? Cheers, Jean
  4. Hi all, wondering if anyone could help me out with this one. My '91 Legacy AWD manual is making a grinding noise whenever I use the engine brake. Like I step on the gas until I hit 3500rpms and then take my foot off. Whenever I do that, there's a weird grinding noise coming from the front left wheel, or so it seems. Don't think it's the CV as the boots are still good and they don't click when turning tight, etc... I went mudbashing on the weekend, could it be that some mud got into the wheel bearing or damaged it somehow? Also of note, I did a tight right hand turn the other day and the tyre made a noise like it had collapsed or something, obviously it put a lot of strain on the bearing. Don't know if that could be it... Tried lifting the front and shook the wheel to see if it was loose but it feels pretty solid. Any idea what it could be? Any info welcome! Cheers, Jean
  5. rweddy, what you say is strange. I talked to a Redline technician to make sure MT-90 was OK for my '91 Legacy AWD and he assured me it was fine, even though it's only GL-4. He said Redline oils are so superior that their GL-4 is superior to cheap GL-5. Of course he works for Redline so he'll say that but he seemed genuine. Just a thought... Cheers
