ABS Questions
JeffWight replied to a post in a topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI just replaced a damaged abs sensor on the right front wheel of my '99 OBW. The sensor was about $110 at http://www.1stsubaruparts.com and took about 15 minutes to install. It was a very easy fix, the sensor is attached to a cable which goes through the wheel well to a connector. The sensor and cable are all one unit secured by three bolts. I didn't mess around with pulling any fuses, I just replaced the sensor and all is well.

bogus obd II scanner results?
JeffWight replied to JeffWight's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks Ferret. Is there any particular scanner you would recommend? It shouldn't be rocket science to read a serial data stream. Most of the cost is probably in the connectors.

bogus obd II scanner results?
A couple months ago, the "check engine" light went on in our 99 outback wagon. I asked my wife to run it in to the shop and have it checked. They read the code, said it gave some weird data, charged us $70, and cleared it. Two days later the light was back on. Thanks guys. I bought my own scanner, the cheap harbor freight one. I just went out to check it. The thing lights up and gives me: -1- -2- -3- pause... -4- -5- E Help? Thanks, -Jeff

98 outback fuel econ??
JeffWight replied to ts johnson's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust another data point, since I was about to post basically the same question: My new-to-me '99 outback with 40K and automatic transmission will get only 17mpg around town and 21mpg on the highway. I was expecting better. I haven't tried any of the tune up stuff listed in this thread, yet. What is a knock sensor?

Any recommendations for AAA alternative?
JeffWight replied to newsooby's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCheck out the RV roadhelp from Allstate. I don't know what they consider an "RV", but I have coverage on my motorcycle, subaru, and suburban.

hatchback open indicator stays on
JeffWight replied to JeffWight's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI had the latch mechanism apart today. The switch at the latch is working, as tested with my ohm meter without the connector attached to it. My problem must be at the other end, or somewhere in between. It's probably something I'll just have to live with for a while.

hatchback open indicator stays on
I have a '99 legacy outback. The hatch open indicator stays lit all of the time. I'd like to check out the switch in the back that controls it, but can't find any switch. Anybody know where it is hidden? Thanks, -Jeff
