  1. After seeing previous posts related to mine I found the solution. I pressed the unlock button on the keyless remote and they went off. When I used the remote earlier today the battery was too weak to operate the locks and I didn't use the remote after boosting the battery.
  2. This is something new. I plugged in a new GPS to charge it with the ignition in ACC. It took several hours and it drained the battery such that the Forester ('98) wouldn't start. The battery (3 years old) was still weak after a couple of days. I cleaned the battery terminals & just before I had a neighbour give me a boost, I noticed that the 4 way flashers were on. I checked that the Hazard switch hadn't been turned on by accident and it was off. I drove it to get a battery charger which is hooked up at the moment. The 4 way flashers come on for several seconds then go off. Now that it's dark I noticed that the rear license plate lamp is coming on with them as well. Did disconnecting the battery to clean the terminals/low battery have something to do with this? I'll have to disconnect the battery to get them to shut off if this continues and try the dealership tomorrow. Appreciate any advice. Thanks.
  3. Anyone know where there's info (posted or otherwise) explaining in more detail how the power distribution works with the Sube particularly in the '98 vintage? To be honest, my knowledge doesn't go beyond what's in the sales pamphlets. Thanks.
  4. I've had Bridgestone Turanza's on my Forester for three years now and have been very pleased with them. They grip the road very well in wet weather. Tread life is better than the Yokohama's that come standard. This year for the first time I'm thinking of putting snow tires on particularly for better safety on the highways. The Yokohama IG 20's look appealing with the features they have. They got a good review in the newspaper here. I haven't seen any mention of them in the various posts in the forum though I realize they're new out this year. Anyone have any opinions or know someone who has them?
  5. I've had a similar experience with my '98 Forester. The dealership replaced the evaporative cannister. The light was off for awhile but came back on. I was told there is a sensor on top of the gas tank that was faulty. It would cost $500.00 to fix as they have to remove the tank. I decided to live with it for the time being. I had to have the emissions check done in early Sept. and it passed (as usual). The service manager said the fault could be intermittent and wouldn't affect the emissions test. The light stayed off after this service until I was driving back from vacation later that month. Other than having the bright yellow symbol blazing from the instrument panel (which is particularly annoying at night), I've heard that when the light comes on the engine management system defaults to a certain setting and it seems that the gas mileage is affected(?).
  6. I have a '98 Forester. Does anyone know of a sensor on top of the gas tank that could cause the 'Check Engine Light' to come on?
