Timimg belt not culprit!
after taking out radiator and fans and draining cooling system and pulling belts and covers and balancer i find that my eyes were deceiving me in looking down on marks...
sp after going back together with it...I start checking spark and fuel....low and behold a fuel injector isn't working properly so I pull it out clean it up. put it back in still missing!
so to make sure that the fuel injector is the problem i switched it with another one on the other side of the motor and the car runs great!
leaving it alone and I know if the cylinder with suspect injector starts missing what the problem is...
I can't believe it took me 3 days to find the miss and 10 minutes to fix it...for now.

loose/ worn fan belt is more likely. When the alt fails the brake light is fairly bright.
Also check the battery terminals, clean them, and clean the alt terminals.
nipper
Does the brake light come on when the alternator fails?

I'd run the plug out cold, stick my finger in the hole and put the washer on and run it back in..you won't lose more than 1/4 quart if you aint afraid to get in there and get your hands dirty!
Don't be tentative.

Oh! I think I'm gonna have to put motor mounts or tranny mounts in it or something.. It has a hell of a vibration that is being magnified by the miss!
-
OK....after going over and over engine looking for vacuum leaks, intake manifold leaks, checking cat"I got a hole knocked through the middle now".
I pull the timimg cover and my driver side cam is now somehow 1 tooth off.. I guess when I got on the interstate yesterday...since this is when it happened...4800 rpm's was enough to jump it....considering I changed it 4000 miles ago I'm wondering if the tensioner is bad...But man let me tell you.. You got to put it in a vice to collapse it and put a nail in it.
Oh well...shouldn't take more than a few hours.
any tips to make it easier to get the cams to line up and stay lined up when putting belt on?...It took me like an hour to get it on and tight last time.

I'm starting with cat and exhaust but if it's not stoppped up where could a miss/hesitation/vibration/acts more like a broke motor mount or something yet still kind acts like a miss too...weird...

Oh it's a great thing I got going with the auto salvage yard...He said anytime I need anything just let him know and bring a pie!

My second job is at Papa johns.
Today when i got to work I smelled "clutch"

i called the local auto Zone...68.99 plus 47 core..plus tax!
i call the Local salvage yard.. 35 bucks...
I got it for a large works plus banana peppers!
Works fine so afr.. the one i took off was rusty rump roast hell...the new/used one is off a 98 with 105,000 miles mine's a 96 with 267,000...
I'm pretty happy!

I found a wrecked right hand drive 95 legacy....
From what i can tell the floor pan just has punch out plastic caps where the steering and stuff goes. should be able to pop out and install hook up linkage and run it....
and now I have a parts caR!
-
Have you given any thought to purchasing a parts car? Or possibly getting another Legacy and using this one for the parts car?
-
I shot it on the piston and pushed it back with a c clamp and hit the breaks and sprayed it and pushed it back with a c clamp and hit the breaks and sprayed it and pushed it back with a c clamp and let it sit all night.
-
how can it get into brake system by applying to cylinder?
If i'm not mistaken...brake fluid doesn't circulate.
-
let my stuck cylinder in my brake caliper set over night in pb blaster and it works like new. all the nasty rust is gone! woo hoo!

are these gauges oem from subaru as well? That is one tight looking dash. Very well done... Price? ease of install? availability?

Oh! The harder you hit it...the more force it generates. Craftsman

I've got a bolt buster that is 1/2 inch drive. You put you socket on it and when you hit the end of it it it turns the socket an 1/8 of a turn.. works great.Availabe at sears for 50 bucks.

if you aint out in the back yard hugging a tree and don't have to pass emission tests in your state core that cat out and make significant gains....
not just my opinion....FACT!
-
unless you live in a testing state...core that cat out and milage WILL improve!

I've ran my 96 legacy outback AWD auto down to empty a couple times now and the most I've put in it was 9.3 gallons. Do I really have a 16 gallon tank?
