  1. They're frameless, and these are standard non power windows. But thanks, you gave enough description that I'll see what I can find up front... ron
  2. Hi all, Both driver's and passenger front door windows on our Brighton wagon don't seem to pull in enough when the doors are closed. You can see daylight between the glass and the rubber seal(which causes a water leak and lot's of wind noise) at the rear top corner of each window. There seems to be excessive play when I wiggle the window, but maybe that's the way they're supposed to be? They don't seem to compress the seal at all. Anyone else deal with this and are the channels they set in adjustable to take up the slack? thx
  3. Just ran down stairs to confirm the engine size EJ22. 2.2L, am I correct? No power windows, just power mirrors, no AC, does have tilt. the PO had the factory clarion CD player installed. Has the factory roof rack and they purchased a Subaru ski rack as well(never installed, new in box). Maybe the Canadian market cars were different?
  4. Well, we finally found the car we wanted, '01 brighton wagon, 2.2L/5 speed. Nice shape, 125,000 kms, hopefully it'll last a long time. It's replacing our beloved Toyota Tercel 4X4 wagon which has been a very faithful companion for the last seven years. The subie's been a Vancouver car from day one, no rust whatsoever. Looking forward to bombing up to the Okanagan this xmas with it! Should be a little faster getting up those big climbs than the turtle was.
  5. Hi all, in our search for a nice impreza brighton, we just had an '01(2.2L, 5 speed) with 125k kms on it inspected. Pretty good report overall. 200lbs comp on each cyl. They couldn't find any head gasket leakage, the valve cover gasket is leaking a little near #1 spark plug. They're a little concerned that the engine is so clean, thinking it might've been steam cleaned recently. I noticed that too, but there is a bit of dust, etc. on the engine so I think it's been a while since it was done and you'd think any oil leakage would've shown up by now. The engine oil was down slightly. T belt will be due at 168k kms. For the amount we drive that's a few years away, but if we get the car we would consider doing it next year in case the belts are drying out. So is there anything I should take a second look at? The body and inter are excellent, and drives well, very solid, no rattles, pulls, etc. New tires, battery and brakes. The owner spent over $1,000 on the 96 k kms service at the local subie dealership and they do have all of the repair bills which I will look at.
  6. Hi all, If we buy the '98 brighton wagon we have a deposit on, I'll want to learn as much as possible about the mechanical aspects of the car. How the AWD works, does our 5 speed car have a hill holder, etc. Any good sites out there with this info available?
  7. Well, an update: After an interesting excursion to Vancouver island, I checked out the subie and all was well until I diagnosed a slipping clutch on the way to the subie dealership where I was going to have the car inspected. I was late for the inspection and it was cancelled. Just as well as I didn't want to pay for the inspection and the car with a dying clutch. BUT, the Chrysler dealer ship that had the car for sale wanted to talk and after a lengthy negotiation I managed to beat the sales guy down to a lower price than origianally advertised that includes a new clutch WITH a list and receipt of what they're replacing in the clutch along with a one year warrantee on the clutch and the standard 3 months on the rest of the power train. So all in all, once the clutch is done it will go back to the subie dealership for an inspection and if I like what I see I bring the car home. Nice car, forest green, has tilt(?) steering, an aftermarket sunroof, factory roof rack and the original cassette stereo, tan interior that's immaculate. The car drove very well except for the weak clutch. I was impressed at the grunt the 2.2L has, although we're comparing this to our '86 Tercel 4wd wagon with a 1500cc it'll be replacing!
  8. Sounds like it's worth making the trip to see then. Thx! Hopefully by tomorrow I'll be a regular on here:) cheers Ron
  9. Hi all, I'm checking out a '98 brighton wgn with 5 spd, 2.2L engine. It has 146k kms on it(app. 91k miles). Sounds like it's in nice shape, I will see for myself later today. I have an inspection booked with the Subie dealer as well. Is there anything I should look for straight away? I'm pretty experienced with cars so I know to look for body work issues, typical things like brakes, gearbox/clutch, noisy T belt tensioners, oil burning, etc. Other than rear wheel bearings, are there other weak spots on these models? I don't know if there's a maintenance history available on the car so I guess we should include the cost of a T belt change and water pump in the price of the car. Asking price is $7,000 canadian, definitely in the ball park in this part of the world where most cars are overpriced and sell the same day if they're decently priced. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated...
