compression test results.
OK, I ran another test on it today and i got considerably higher readings. i just pulled the fuel pump fuse and and propped the throttle wide open AND hooked up the battery charger on low and I got 140 in all of them but #4 if (i remember right), it read 120...

compression test results.
I took my readings while it was warm with all of the plugs out and at least3 compression strokes on each cyl. On a scale from 1-10 it runs like a 6. It doesn't stall or anything but it definitely needs some help. the motor seems like its a little off balance at about 1k but it does idle decently with the exception of the valves being out of adjustment.

compression test results.
I picked up a 84 GL yesterday and have been working on it today fixing it up and such for a cheaper daily driver but I checked the compression and the first three cylinders were all about 90 and about 75 on cylinder 4. The guy i bought it from said the motor was replaced with a used low milage one. The motor has solid lifters (which need adjusting) and not the hyro's, so i know it was replaced but i have no idea to the mileage on the motor. How can i tell if it just needs a valve job? and how much would that typically cost ? should i sell it? any advice is appreciated.

80's cyclops eye rare?
No im just talking about in 1980 only since it was the first year. It makes sence that they might have only made a few but 150??

80's cyclops eye rare?
Ya they were standard on some years of 4wd soob's im finding, but what about 1980? Were they standard then ? Mine also has the "passing light" and is stock from what markjw told me.

80's cyclops eye rare?
I was at a junkyard yesterday looking for some trim on my 96 legacy and some guy just about crapped his pants after he saw my wagon. He started telling me they only made 150 cyclops eye equipped Subarus because they were trying them out in 1980. He called it a "snow finder". These arent that rare are they???

Fast idle adjustment
How do you adjust the fast idle on a Webber 32/36 with an electric choke?? a cold 3000 rpm start in the morning is not cool... Ill pretty much need a short walk through on adjusting it. Ive heard the adjustment screw is behind the choke but i don't want to do any experimenting on my only means of transportation right now(without some advice that is).

pics of the legacy and friends lifted wagon
projectRX replied to coolhonda...'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYa thats markjw's old wag. New and improved that is. Had the windows titned to help preserve the interior and did a rear turbo disk conversion on it. More to come. Possibly a 5spd DR swap to come.

What do you use and recomend for transmission fluid
Alright I just bought markjw's old wagon (thanks again mark). Its my first ea81 and im very happy with it. but it could definitely use a fluid swap because its old and kinda dirty and shifts hard and takes a while for the synchros to finish their job OH and it has a bearing hiss after its been driven for a good while. No offense but I dont care for the idea of "scotty's mix" and Im having trouble finding ANY redline products and dont want to go buy something online and wait for a week at best. So, What do you guys use and recomend for a fluid change? Also when the time comes for the motor, what do you use with ea81's 10-30, 15-40? synthetic? regular? (The wagn came with everything but a manual. Seriously, original options receipt, window sticker, dealer ad on's pamphlet etc)

Another 1986 GL Sedan question-door locks
I had my 86 RX and my 89 GL they did the same. I found that its a saftey feature and your supposed to lock the dirvers side door WITH THE INSIDE LEVER PULLED(not the outside one) Im 99% sure all GL's and loyals with power D.L. did this....

a couple XT ?'s
Sotally Tober? I swear dyslexia i have sometimes?...... Haha anyways my mistake, I edited out that extra "turbo" in that sentence. If theres anyone that might be interested in other parts off the XT I found, I would consider shipping it to anyone if they sent me the money and shipping for it. That is if its easily shippable. Let me know
