  1. One of the guys I work with seems to think he might know where to find another trim piece if this one is beyond hope (gonna try and be gentle to bend it back in), so we'll see how this goes.  At least the windshield doesn't leak without it, so I'm happy there.  Just little trim pieces here and there getting brittle after almost 30 years and starting to crumble, but this one was a bit of a surprise.  I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

This is the passenger's side pillar that the trim flew off of.

This is the recovered trim piece.

I only hope I can get it bent back into shape, or if someone has a spare, that would be awesome too!  I just don't know how these attached, but from the looks of the surroundings, it was pretty much adhesived into place with something good and stong.

    Thanks!

  3. My poor Soobie is falling apart, it seems.  I was driving to work today and I noticed out of the corner of my eye, this flash of black flying off my car.  I circled around to find it was the trim piece that covers the pillar between the windshield and door!  Wow.......that had never happened before, but by the time I circled around to get it, someone had run over it, so it had this bend in it.  I did pick it up and take it with, but not sure how to get it back on (assuming I can carefully get it molded back into shape (not TOO terribly bent).  Judging by the fittings, it looks like it was attached from inside somehow, so not quite sure how this can be re-attached, or if I should just find some thick rubber washers, position it in place and epoxy it in or something.

I know parts like this are hard to come by, so any thoughts or recommendations are always welcome.  Thanks!

  4. The rubbery trim that goes from the top of the door to the window on my Soob is cracking and breaking off. I had thought about trimming it on the part going to the door, and then using Flex Seal and tape off a strip to cover where the part that was trimmed off was. Not sure if this trim is still available. Thoughts?

  5. My poor '86 XT has been without a good style since I bought her years ago, and one of the biggest problems is the dash top - you know....that piece of the dash you see through the windshield.  Poor thing has had a piece of fabric over her since the day I bought her, and looking undeneath, it has nasty splits in a couple of different places.  I'm not sure if this is something I can have re-covered, replaced, or if I should just put an aftermarket dash cover on it.  I have a new trim bezel to go on the front, but wanted to have the rest of it nice first.

Opinions?  Recommendations?  She needs some life breathed back into her.  Mechanical-wise, she's in good shape, although I need to find out why the heater blower stopped working, so I can drive it in the winter time again.

    Thanks all!

  6. For rare parts, I found an accent piece that I've heard is pretty rare.  I'm going to someday get the top of my dash done (it has nasty sun splits in it), and when I do, I actually have a brand new replacement bezel piece for the front (where it wraps around the vents, radio, instruments) for my 86 XT.  Gonna wait until it's ready, and then get the new beauty face put on that baby!

Only 125K miles, but dang..........still going STRONG!
