I work on Subarus everyday. We've got customers getting over the 200k mark without any issues at all. In fact we've never had to replace a cvt. Some of the earlier gens put up a Christmas tree on the dash (all lights flare up) and replacing the valve body fixes the issue. And Subaru does sell their genuine cvt fluid by the quart now. It's a clear, minty green fluid that almost smells like liquorice.

To get back on topic, the cvt are holding up well (except the first two or so years they were produced) and if you don't mind how they drive as opposed to a traditional automatic don't fear buying the newer Subarus.

So what years would those be? The "wiki history" link shows that to be a long time ago. So are you talking about those antique units? Or the newer ones that started sometime around 09?

  2. Ok guys either I'm searching for related info wrong, or my "smartphone" is being a P.I.A., probably the latter. I have an '07 Legacy 2.5i Special Edition that the previous owner "cooked". I have two self service salvage yards local with a bunch of subies in them. My question is what years of 2.5 SOHC  engines will interchange with my 07 without to much swapping of parts? I will eventually build the factory engine so I'll keep it, i just need to get it going asap.

  3. I bought my wife an '11 Legacy 2.5 Premium that has a CVT in it. The car turned 145k on our test drive. It now has over 230k on it and no problems so far. The only issue i can think of and I'm not even sure it's an issue with the trans, is once in a great while with the a/c on when pulling up to a stop it will shudder. Other than that just like Numbchux i always drove old school automatics or spoob box cars that you feel shift. It took me some time to get used to it, but now it's all good. Once in awhile the wifey and i will have a laugh remembering that test drive and me yelling at the "shift damn it! F'n shift! " lol

  4. F.Y.I. from a guy who used to work selling auto parts and magick in a bottle chemicals.  99% of stop leak types of magick in a bottle is barely more than pure brake fluid! The thought is that it will swell the seals and make them stop leaking that way. Of course everyone who knows anything about brake fluid also knows that it also starts to eat at "rubber" type components.  So it may work for awhile, but in the end it will totally destroy ALL  the seals.  So i wouldn't use it in a vehicle i was keeping for any length of time.

  5. I have not been on here in a long time. My cousins in Houston Tx. Sold my 85 XT my uncle was storing for me a few years ago. So i want to get another one. I just can't remember if there is a vehicles for sale section on here some where. Figured this would be as good a place as any to look for one. T.I.A. everyone!      Choover

  6. Are there still parts available off of this car?

    Thanks, chad

hey guys i found an 86 XT turbo. Correct me if im wrong all XT Turbo's have the spider intake but only the Naturally Aspirated have the spider intake after 87.5'. What is everything i need to put it on my MPFI EA82t and how much should i offer? This guy has been trying to sell the whole car for about 4 months months now and keeps chopping the price but he has not gone any lower than 300 for a while so either hes wants it gone or is desperate for money ...
