  1. many threads about engine and trans swaps.... the search continues... any other suggestions others didn't list would be helpful also..
  2. wanted some info on you engine swap... what type of trans do you have in your wagon and was it easy to do the engine swap, any wiring issues and problems? I have a 92 loyale wagon 3EAT with 1.8 EA82 and heard i can do a EJ22 & 4EAT swap.
  3. I have a 92 loyale 2WD wagon 3 speed auto w/t 82EA SPFI. car runs fine but need more power and lousy gas mileage. Reading past threads about able to swap a EJ22 engine, a 4EAT trans & wiring from a Legacy or Imperza. has anyone done this before? what year vehicles carry the EJ22 & 4EAT? Overall I want to keep the wagon a automatic trans, 4 speed would be great! Any other suggestions will help too!
  4. there is a 86 wagon for sale: 1.8L, 4 wheel drive & 5 speed. I don't know all the details yet and no model type was listed in the ad.... looks like a Loyale model. http://honolulu.craigslist.org/mau/cto/1035306094.html are there any other models than the Loyale wagon for that year? I have a 93 Loyale front wheel drive 3 auto wagon with 105k miles and wanted to use the 86 as parts/swap out, wanted to swap the 4 wheel drive and 5 speed.. is this possible? my body is in better condition so i wanted to move everything to my 93.... or is the 86 a better keeper?
  5. Hey everyone, finally had time to take the govenor out, took it apart like the picture and did a good cleaning. please folks remember to put some RTV aorund the cover if you dont want any trans fluid leaking onto your exaust. did a test run and really no big difference. (considering the unit was really clean and in good condition) I went back to the vaccum modulator and cranked it 4 times clockwise from stock position... test run and you wont believe but I had 0 of the problems I listed in this thread. going to run the wagon a fewdays to see if that was the fix. more to come....
  6. didn't know i had to go that much in depth... will do it when have more time and will keep everyone posted on the results... the quest continues...
  7. removed the govenor... the cover screws were loose as if someone before me was working on it. not that bad... no apple core, litttle surface gunk and a very minor gouge/ring around the shaft. cleaned it up and reinstalled then a test run. gotta say.. i am amazed! the symtoms decreased alot! now since the rough slipping and noise decreased, i notice a small sputter when it shifts from 1st to 2nd and the shifting seems to be very soft. (around 2300 rpm) the quest continues....
  8. I took mines out... like you said 10 mins top! the cover screws were loose as if someone before me was working on it. it didn't look that bad and no apple coring and the gears look fine... only a very minor ring grove around the shaft part due to wear? cleaned it up and re-installed. did a test run and gotta tell ya folks... the symptoms decreased alot! I took some pictures but I could not figure out how to show them.
  9. oops... yea MPH, however... I am getting a avg of 19mpg. (calculated by gallons of gas filled divided by total miles traveled) live in hawaii... kind of flat here.
  10. anybody got a part number and or website for a governor? the closest P/N i found is 31450AA021 but no results found online. tried several part sites but no luck. wongie
  11. I have replaced the fluid twice and added lucus additive, dex II i believe. the reason to replace the filter and gasket is becuase it was cheap & not due to any malfunction. wongie
  12. 92 loyale wagon 110k 3 speed auto FWD SPFI *NO CHECK ENGINE LITE OK.. i know what most of ya think of the ea82 & the 3AT, but need a ride with a automatic trans and she works for me. Plus I put in much repair time since i purchased her 1 year ago. *I have reviewed the forums and have a repair manual... still need help folks! did tune-up: cap/rotor, plugs/wires, PCV, timing belt (timing @ 20), oil fluid & pan, trans fluid & pan, seafoam, sensor cleaning, trans modulator... cant think of what else. *all fluids full, no vaccum leaks after the trans fluid/filter replacement, having problems: IN DRIVE FROM STANDSTILL, SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND: (sometimes) slips/stutters and or is very noisy and rough. have to release gas pedal or do a manual shift to 1st then to 2nd. COMMING TO A STOP AND OR SLOWING DOWN: (always) when trying to accelerate from a yeild sign or a speed bump the transmission does not automaticly down shift to a lower gear, always have to manual drop to 2nd gear or press the gas pedal almost to the ground to downshift. tried the band adjustment... very cumbersome and after 15 times of jacking my ride to do the adjustment really not sure if it's correct, anyone know how to reset the adjustment? replaced the trans modulator (fram FM2324), is fluid suppose to come out of the trans when replacing? according to the instructions the unit come pre-set but if required due to slippage or soft shifts; adjust 2 full clockwise turn. *I did this *how can you tell if your cat converter if cloged? exaust sounds fine to me *timing according to book is 20+-2, any other suggestions? *on hwy 3rd gear: doing 3300-3400rpm @ 55mpg, 3600-3800rpm @ 60mpg. is this normal?
  13. haven't had a chance to try the band adjustment.. but the symtoms are premature shifting from 1st to 2nd and at slowing down to hit speed bumps and stops signs it, seems i'm always on 2nd gear due to poor throttle response. climbing hills i got poor performance.. always have to downshift to 2nd gear.
  14. ok... I guess when I replaced one of the timing belts, I installed it 1 gear tooth off the timing mark and one of the spark plugs was loose. fixed both issues and no more noise/clanking and the car runs much much better. I also replaced the oil pump gaskets due to major oil leaks... still got very minor leakage from some were close to the left/right cranks shafts but cannot confirm its comming from there. as for the rough ride, was think of replacing stabilizer bushing/lower control arm bushing/tie rod bushings? not something easy to find... been looking online but no luck. still working on my project....
  15. did more work... it seems I missed one gear tooth when I re-installed a timing belt. Aligned the timing marks, confirm the timing is at 20 degrees +-2 @ 700rpm... and now it's getting better. it still sometimes jumps/stutters from 1st to 2nd gear and trying the band adjustment setas best as I can. more to come...
  16. I went under and started banging the crap out of everything & nothing, I'm gonna just remove all of them, unless someone says otherwise. also running prem 92 octane gonna buy the 185 because it's cheaper, I can get them from firestone for $50 ea. so lazy... but I'll put back the crank gaskets back once I get all the other kinks out.
  17. Did a tune-up,strut change, brakes and there are still some minor problems with my wagon: 1. When I am driving/pressing the gas pedal there is a noise comming from the under carrage/engine/trans area. It sounds like something is loose/clanking but when I check the area, nothing is loose & or looks wrong/missing. *it doesn't happen when I rev the engine in park or neutral. I replaced the O2 sensor... could it be the exuast heat shields? Do I need them & can I take them off? 2. have 175/70/13 tires.. planning to replace them due to age, will 185 X 70 fit on a 13 rim & help gas milage/driving performance. 3. ride was rough/ridged/bumpy before the strut change & all the symtoms are somewhat the same after replacement. am I overlooking something? 4. replaced all timing belts & forgot to put back the center timing cover before I re-installed the main crank pully, is it necessary to re-install all 3 crank case covers? 5. I don't lock my doors when I drive,is there a way to disable to "DOOR LOCK" light in the instrument guage? 6. after all the tune-up & work, I calculated around 19-20mpg at 50% city & 50% hwy driving & hitting 3300-3400rpm @ 55mpg. is this normal?
  18. ok... its been awhile but i've been busy. I did more work on my loyale: replaced again the trans fluid, added lucas treatment, tune-up and tried the band adjustment. (don't know how well of a job I did) Took it out for a test ride and it still seems to jump/stutter from 1st to 2nd gear alittle, mostly when I push the gas pedal agressively. And it doesn't really downshift to the right gear when slowing towards lower speeds for stop signs and speed bumps. Test driving again and try the band adjust... about 4 times now, Really a pain to do and hard to gauge how much band adjustment to do. (I got a manual) I get around 3200-3400 RPM @ 55MPH (100-200 RPM less than before),calculated 20MPG using premuim gas & tires are 170/70/13. so kind of at the same place as before... thanks for all the inputs/suggestions
  19. got a bad leg and it's hard to shift after awhile, thats why I bought the car with the automatic trans. too bad a 4 speed auto would not fit easily. REGUARDINGTHE BAND ADJUSTMENT... is this something a non technicial person can do? been doing some digging around and cant find "how to do" info to do it myself.
  20. I will try with the 2-3 band adjustment and will update the forum with the results. I never drove a automatic vehicle that hits high RPM like this one and with the calculations I'm doing 17 mpg right now.
  21. I have a 92 Loyale wagon with a 1.8 engine with a 3 speed auto transmission. looking for options due to bad gas milage and high RPM's. will a 4 speed auto trans fit and from what model/year I did a tune-up and replaced the trans fluid. at 55 mph i'm cranking around 3500 rpm and 9 gallons I did 160 miles.
