  1. Hood Scoop looks great. Does anyone have a address for the company that makes them? I'll have to get with Rllywgn to find out the particulars on the intercooler that he put on the car. All I can remember is that it had 2000 in it's name (it's hell when you get old and suffer from CRS syndrome). Anyone have any other pictures of hood scoops? Thanks for your help. Larry Roa Dog1@BigMailBox.net
  2. Got the 1987 GL10 Turbowagon that I bought from Rllywgn up and running (still has a few issues like brakepads dragging on rotors after brakes released) and now want to hook up the intercooler on the car. What is the sharpest looking hood scoop that I can put on this wagon? If you can furnish an address/email or otherwise, it would be a great help. Also, what parts should I be hunting down to hook up the intercooler? Hints on nice to have versus necessities would be appreciated. I haven't seen any turbowagons here in Colorado Springs, Colorado sooo.... I'm open for suggestions. Larry Roa Dog1@BigMailBox.net 1987 GL10 Turbowagon 1984 GL Hatchback on it's last legs, but hanging on.
  3. Probably a bad angle to try this out in, but I have removed broken bolts on my car by carefully building up the metal of the bolt with my arc welder. I then weld a handle on the end of the built up bolt and turn it out by hand. It's worked on my Dodge truck after I broke off the thermostat housing bolt. Just an idea........... Dog1
  4. Thanks for the info. I fiquered that I should run premium in it, but I just wanted to make sure. If nothing else, it will give me a source of gas to siphon out for my motorcycles if in need. Any hints or warnings from the guys in Colorado on tuning it up for high altitudes? Still trying to find a subaru wizard to help me plumb in the intercooler. Anyone know somebody around Colorado Springs who is good at this? I live up in Black Forest. Dog1
  5. Just got a 1987 GL Turbowagon and am wondering what would be the best grade of gas to run in it. Here in Colorado, we get the privilage (LOL) of using gas that is two percent lower in octane than the rest of the country. Hence, our regular is 85 octane, midgrade is 87 octane, and premium is 91 octane. Of course, there is no discount for getting the lower octane levels. Having no previous experience with turbo charged motors, I am confused as to what grade of gas I should be using. What do you guys run in yours? Dog1
  6. Calebz, In rllywgn's original post offering the car for sale, he said that he had installed the motor, but hadn't been able to get it tuned correctly(mainly just ignition timing and making sure the tps sensor was in the proper position). I'm having the guy in the shop handle this job and check over any other potential areas of concern. As I get more used to the car (and read a heck of a lot more of what you guys post here) I'll try my hand more and more into the maintenance of this car. This is my first turbo powered vehicle, so I probably have a lot to learn. Most of the vehicles I own have over 250,000 miles on them, so I'm not afraid to get dirty maintaining them. It's just I am a very old dog and it takes me awhile to learn new tricks. Dog1
  7. Thanks all. I'll have to get with rllywgn to find out what he got the intercooler out of. I'll have the guy at the shop get it tuned up for this altitude and then take it to someone who specializes in carbs and fuel systems to get the intercooler hooked up (unfortunately, I know my limitations when it comes to working on cars. ) I'll try to borrow a digital camera, or possibly rllywgn might post some of the particulars that would help identify what I'm up against. I do know that he left a lot of plumbing for it in the back of the car. Dog1
  8. Myxalplyx, I thought it sounded a little flakey. I talked to a buddy in South Carolina about it last night and he mirrored your thoughts. I wonder what his true reason is about balking to hook up the intercooler? His is a racing shop/japanese import repair shop, so I don't think it is a lack of knowledge. Anyone out there hook up an intercooler to a turbo motor and would like to share thoughts/experiences? Dog1
  9. Just purchased rllywgn's 1987 GL turbo wagon 4x4 and it is equipped with an intercooler that is not hooked up. The Subaru Shop that I took it to said that the intercooler would cause the car to run lean at the altitudes I am going to operate it at in Colorado (8000 to 14,000 feet) and further stated that this would result in damage to the engine. Is this true or am I being feed a line? Would love to run it with the intercooler hooked up, but not if it will effect dependability or engine life. Dog1
  10. All_Talk, You might want to get hold of mudrat79. He had offered me a car that sounds just like the one you are looking for. I have found a car here in Colorado that meets the requirements that I needed to fill. This possibly opens this car up for you if mudrat79 still wants to sell it. Dog1
  11. Thanks for the info. Following the suggestions of some, I called him up last night and ironed out some details on the car. Look forward to doing business with him and to owning my first non-carberated car (Subaru of course).
  12. Mudrat79 responded to my earlier post regarding looking for a replacement for my work car. He is currently building a car that sounds perfect for my use and has offered it to me for sale. He said that he does this for a living and urged me to check on the board for references from those who have either purchased his vehicles, or knows of his work. So , here I am. Is the workmanship good and are the cars reliable? PS. Mudrat79, I have sent two E-mails to you concerning the car recently. I haven't heard anything back so I am wondering if you are having server/computer problems? Dog1 Dog1@BigMailBox.net
  13. Thanks for the info. I plan to save up about $3000 for the next car. As long as it has a good radio and I don't think the body rust is going to drop me out of the floor boards, I'm happy. A few dents and dings in it aren't a factor(in fact, they cause SUV owners to rethink the wisdom of cutting in front of me). Based on your input, I think I'll hunt for a little old lady driven 1980-84 GL, standard transmission , low mileage (150,000 or less, hey it's a Subaru!). I think I'll go out and see what a Loyale looks like just to see if I like the body style. The 1984 I have is a two door hatchback. Should I expect the same performance out of a station wagon version of the same vehicle? What about gas mileage ($1.49-$1.59 a gallon here)? Sorry if I'm asking what might appear to be dumb questions, but I tend to drive vehicles for a long ,long time. I still have and drive my 1977 Dodge Powerwagon(258,000 miles) and my 1973 Dodge Challenger (218,000). I just can't afford to feed them at todays gas prices. Hence, the Subaru work car.
  14. My current work car is getting a little long in the tooth. I have a 1984 Subaru GL with 213,993 miles on it. I paid $500 for it when it only had about 165,000 miles on the odometer. A combination of body rust, oil use by leaking (about 1 quart every 400 miles), off and on again radio, etc is causing me to think that I should be looking and saving up for a newer Subaru replacement work car before long. What year and model Subaru would you pick for a 20 mile a trip to work (frequently in snow and ice) vehicle? P.S. I am amazed how rugged this vehicle has been. I live up above 8000 ft elevation(Colorado) on a dirt road and this car has been a real tank. I drive around stuck 4x4 Trucks every winter. Dog1 Dog1@BigMail Box.net
