  1. i visually checked the front crash sensor - the hit was above it and it was unharmed. i don't know what the procedure is for checking the sensor, i've read some people say they are one-time use and need to be replaced and others say they are re-usable. i'm going with the assumption that if the airbag computer doesn't throw any codes, all is well. the only advice i would give anyone replacing the computer is to be careful unlatching the green/yellow secondary latch holding the main connector. there is a metal wire spring under the green latch, it needs to be pressed inwards, then you can raise the green latch. the jy broke mine removing it, and it is necessary so i had to do some fabricating. other than that, it's pretty straightforward. for some reason, i'm getting 2 cel's after the accident: #35 purge control solenoid or circuit & #49 mass airflow sensor. wonder what caused that? :-\
  2. thanks for all of the great advice! i check out the website http://www.myairbags.com and they do subarus for $55, but my year wasn't listed - plus, i didn't wanna wait however long it would take to send it to them and have it returned. so, i called around the local yards. what a wide range of prices! the closest JY wanted $250 for the airbag and computer! yikes!! after a few more calls, i found a couple yards willing to let them go for $25/set. now, that's more like it! (they did break the green/yellow safety clip on the computer, but that's what zip ties were made for, right?) nobody had grey, though. blue is close enough for me. everything is hooked up and good-to-go, no codes. thanks again for your responses.
  3. anybody know how to reset the airbag computer after deployment? i've replaced the bag, and the other components were not damaged at all by the impact. the dealership says it's $85 to scan it and "we'll go from there" - i assume that means they'll want me to replace every component in the whole restraint system, before they'll clear it. my local collision centers said they send them to the dealership and let the insurance companies pay for it. i'm hoping someone on here knows if there is a DIY procedure to clear it. thx...
  4. i pulled everything out of the way today & i think you're right on track! it's not as bad as i originally thought. looks like i need to replace the inner apron from about a few inches in front of the strut tower to about 6" past the hood latch. the parts you mentioned, some more stuff under the hood and an airbag - then i'll be good2go. thanks for the replies, fellas.
  5. thanks, and i agree completely (guess that's why my driver's license says ORGAN DONOR at the bottom - LOL).
  6. will do. although, after wrenching on it a little today, i'm definitely leaning towards repairing it. time to start looking for a willing donor...zzz
  7. thanks gary, i've searched for a little over an hour, but can't seem to find that post.:-\ any more info on how i may go about searching for it? yeah, i'm in the middle of that process right now. after a bit of haggling, they've agreed on a fair price, and i've negotiated to buy the salvage back for next to nothing. problem is, i had to apply for the salvage certificate and the DMV is taking forever.
  8. hi all, i'm new here and wanted to get some advice. just bought a 93 legacy in mint condition (under 150K miles). unfortunately, i was hit by a drunk driver in the driver's side front fender. i was doing 25 mph and she was going about 15 mph, enough for the insurance co. to total the car. there doesn't appear to be any damageto the frame or suspension/driveline, however the "inner structure" where the fender is attached is mangled pretty well, about 10" in front of where the strut mounts. i've found a replacement hood, fender, headlights, etc. but was wondering how i would replace this inner structure? the firewall and passenger side are fine, front is slightly bent, but could probably be pulled straight. could i cut the driver's side/front out of a donor car & weld it in? or would i need to pull the motor/tranny & replace the entire thing? my other option is to part the car out, but i'd hate to, cause it's perfect everywhere else. any opinions/advice are appreciated...thx!
