'98 OB noise
tomzieber replied to tomzieber's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWell, got under the car and shook around the drive shaft, the u-joints seemed solid but with a stethascope (sp?) it seems apparent that the carrier bearing is shot. I found a used one (whole drive shaft) at a junkyard and I hope that it will solve the problem. I thought it might have been brake pads/rotor problem but the noise didn't abate when I used the brakes. For the record, the "noise" was mostly a squeal ( I first thought of wheel bearing ) but then occasionally and simultaneously there would be a non-rythmic click. Thanks all for the insight, I will let you all know what happens.

'98 OB noise
Hi all, I have a '98 OB 5mt with 293K... 2.5 EJ25 engine Recently, I began to hear a grinding metallic sound when moving at slow speeds, regardless if the car was in neutral or under power, straight or turning. Occaisionally at high speeds you can hear the squeal, but not usually. There is a slight vibration when turning tight corners, and more recently there is an occasional clicking noise... no rythym to it, more or less sporadic. I can't tell exactly, but is seems that this noise is located directly beneath me, more towards the back but I'm not sure. Any thoughts?

Read test codes
Thank You, Turbone! Sorry for the late reply, but I truly appreciate the help. Does anyone know which connectors are which? By this I mean, what function do the green connectors perform and what do the whites do? Which are the "read" and which are the "test"? Thanks in advance!

Read test codes
Hello, I know that this info is somewhere on this board, but I can't find it. Could someone tell me how to use the test connecters to read the light on the ECU? This is for an '88 SPFI 1.8L I know that they are located in the engine compartment. Thanks! Tom
