  1. Hi all, new to the board and wish to seek advice. I have a 2007 Forester purchased new last May. Last night the heater didn't work and we assumed perhaps the thermostat wasn't working and would have it checked at the local Subie dealer. Then about half an hour later the needle on the temperature gauge shot up from middle into the red zone, warning light came on and I lost engine power. At the local Subie dealer today, he said the engines pretty dead, that I need a replacement engine and that the cause was the radiator cap not closed fully, but I am inclined to investigate further as to why there were no warning lights leading to the breakdown. Any advice would be great. AussieSubie.
