    I know that there are a couple different valve cover gaskets for 96. I don't know why they are $100 different in price

    You should check the fuel filler pipe under right rear of car. They tend to rot out due to dirt collecting in the plastic shield surrounding the pipe. You don't usually smell this while driving however.
