Does anyone know how hard it would be to put a 5 speed trans out of a gen 3 in to a gen 2 wagon? Any info would be great

88 gl wagon single port fuel injection

I have a 88 wagon with the single port fuel injection it runs great but when the motor cold the high idle won't kick in it idles at about 500rpm and is hesitant. Once it warms up it idles at 700 to 750rpm and no hesitation. Can anyone help.
