Alternative oil (redline)
I need to change the oils in the driveline. Has anyone put in redine oils? I use them in my miata and shifting is a little smoother. Will the dealer put in the oil of my choice even if I have to supply the oil? Thanks

Whining about Outback
Outbackman replied to Outbackman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSo it looks like the concensis is that even though the Jetta has a few nicer creature comforts, it is worth while to put up with the minor annoyances of the Roo to have 4 wheel drive in a reliable practicle vehicle. Thanks for all the opinions. I think I'll go for a top down, after dinner ride in my Miata. Walt

Keylessentry remote range.
Hi Folks. I have an 01 Legacy OBW Limited. My remote has very poor range. I have to stand next to the car for it to work and then it takes several tries to unlock ther car. I replaced the remote battery. Cleaned contacts that I could while I had the remote open. No change in function. My remotes from other cars work from across a parking lot. Any suggestions to improve the range of this remote? Thanks :-\

Whining about Outback
Who else thinks that their Outback wagon should be more safisticated for the money? I'm comparing my 01 limited outback wagon to my Wife's 01 Jetta. Hood on Jetta supported with hydralic struts. Outback, manual prop. Sunroof on jetta opens two ways, tilts or slides using same switch. Outback tilts only. I'd rather have that than the two sunroofs. Rear windows on Jetta go all the way down. Outback only 3/4 down. Heated seats on Jetta, 5 settings. Outback 2. Of course I knew about this when I bought the car and I did buy it for the all wheel drive which I really like. If it weren't for the superior drive system I probably would not have bought the car. Walt :-\

Rear defroster repair/Headlight upgrade
Outbackman replied to Outbackman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks for the replies. After searching again I found significant info on another thread. Some people have upgraded their wiring harness. I assume to handle the higher wattage. Thanks, Walt

Rear defroster repair/Headlight upgrade
Hi Folks, I have a 2001 Legacy outback wagon. Approx. the middle third of the rear window defroster is not working. Is there a DIY repair? I've seen a repair kit in J.C. Whitney for this repair. Just wonder if anyone has tried to repair the defroster. Also has anyone upgraded the bulbs in their headlights. I just want to switch bulbs not the whole headlight assembly. Any suggestions. Thanks for your input. Walt :-\

Moonroof leak
Help, Just got my 01 Legacy Outback LTD a couple of weeks ago. Heavy rain today and my moonroof is leaking. Dripping around the moonroof switch and the map lights. Havn't been back to the dealer yet. Is this a common problem? Any solutions? Also while I'm here, I have a shimmy of the steering wheel at 68 to 75 MPH. New tires, balanced, tires inflated to 30 PSI all around. Suggestions? I have the remainder of 30 days to get the dealer to fix these problems. Thanks,:-\ W
