  1. Oh Gd I should mention that it is leaking right out around the axle (where it plugs into the motor) I figure it won't be that tough, if it is just a seal
  2. Well that will never happen, as far as the tranny goes. But I think it is just a seal, it is all right driving, then when you stop it starts dripping. so, I will build a drip pan if need be. I t was free, but Not willing to dump a bunch of money or work into it,, Thanks! Nick
  3. I changed oil to 20\50 castrol and then used Power Punch a thick , STP like treatment, but half the cost, drove it for 6200 miles, and no noise! I would try the 20\50 oil! Mine was real noisy , like ready to launch mode noisy! I went over Wolf creek pass in Colorado with the greatest of ease,,though the high altitude did cause a little worry! FWIW Nick
  4. I just wanted to let you know, that I bought the Subaru that I had my eye on. ( the one with the noisy lifters) I did a oil chang, (20-50) and a 1\2 quart of Power punch. and set off to Oklahoma! I had no problems other than a loose battery cable! Thank you for all the fine information that y'all gave me!! I got close to 31mpg the whole time with 45lbs. oil pressure. No noisy lifters! It did use some oil, but that is normal for the 200,000 miles on it. Well now I have another Subaru a 1989 Loale, but it has a oil leak , it looks like a seal around the front left axle, never working on one, how much trouble to pull this apart and replace the seal? It leaks right on to the exhaust pipe. that is why the guy gave it to me, his mechainic told him it would cost more to fix than the car is worth, I know better, it only has 125,000 miles on it. and a one owner in great shape! any suggestions! Thankyou guys!!! Nick Coby Washington State
  5. Thank you kindly I'm feeling good, yes he has changed the timing belt and new c v joints and boots! Sounds like a good Idea on changing the cap and hoses,,, any other sugestions? Thanks, Nick
  6. Well that's good to know! I will be leaving Ellensburg to Tulsa and back. It seems to quiet down after it gets warmed up. I haven't bought the car yet, but it is really clean and 4wd 5 spd. 2 extra sets of tires, mounted, for $900. It sounds like a good deal, Any comments, sugestions, words of wisdom? I thank you for taking the time and helping me, "New to the Sube"
  7. How far do they go with them like that? I plan on keeping it for a while, but is it safe for a long trip?
  8. Howdy folks, I finally got in! I have a question, I'm l ready to buy a 1990 subaru Loyale, 198,000 miles, clean, noisy tappets! Is this normal? I have asked several mechanics they say yes, Well I want to embark on a trip and don't need any problems. Nick
