  1. Thanks Josh,

I sorta thought that as I went browsing part listings at 1stsubaruparts, the prices didn't line up. (btw, is there an online site that gives OEM part numbers?) Looks like I have someone looking at buying it tomorrow and I sure hope they take it. Damn shame it they don't, as it's great car with only 184K km's., but lifestyle changes (ie baby/maternity leave= less cash) are forcing my hand. If there's any fellow Nova Scotian's looking for a good car, get in touch. Or anyone for that matter. I take the insurance off of it Monday and will prob. part it out. Parts in last 1.5 years alone include, shocks, battery, alternator, rad, axles, tires and rims, ball joints, crank pulley, etc. It is a very sad weekend indeed. Looks like I have my summer project lined up.

    Thanks again.

No, the 2.2 in the 95 is different then the 2.2 in the 90. There are too many little things that changed, but the big thing is that the 95 has single exhaust port heads, larger valves (both intake & exhaust) different lifters, and some other stuff as well.
  2. Could you tell me more about this Josh? Being a person who just pays for work done on their car (but trying to learn more), are these all item you mention related?

The FWD cars are identical in terms of engine, reliability, etc. The only difference is the transmission, rear drivetrain, and suspension.

My car was FWD for most of it's life....and I had about 178k miles on it before I swapped, so I'd say it's pretty reliable.

  3. Well, I'm torn. It is a great car, and I would love to have AWD. The problem is, up here in Canada, they tend to run quite high in the price range. I could get a 1998 AWD Brighton for $7900 CDN with 186,000 Kilometers. It just seem so much for so many km's. I have 183,000 Km's on my 1990, the way I see it I'd be paying $7900 for a "body". I do love AWD though. I will go and get my mechanic to look at it tomorrow and if all goes well, it looks like I will buy it. Tell me, does the FWD 2.2L engine still have the same "bulletproof" rating? As well, is there anything in particular that I should be aware of with FWD in this era for upcoming problems, etc?

    Thanks,

If you don't mind it doesn't have AWD, and it's in good shape, I'd say go for it if you need a new car.
  4. Thanks......BTW, I did get my MVI passed...just went and told another mechanic that I replaced the bulb. He was happy with that. Interesting thing was the first guy said it was just the left-front side blinker that was not working. I should have dared them to get the right one working too, if I didn't think that I'd be cited for two not working. Makes me think how did he ever actually see the right one working, only to fail the left?

ahh ok, I see where it says combo light. Yeah it's just a side marker.
  5. Would this applies to a 90' Canadian Legacy AWD Auto Sedan. My looking/finding this thread these last few hours has been a great help. I Failed my safety for these not working. The owners manual that you (Legacy777) have made available refers to them as "combo" lights. What would be the "combo" part? I thought turn/park signal? If not, then what? Hey, I'll be very happy hearing they're not signal lamps.

I'm assuming you have a 91 US spec legacy correct?

I also assume you're talking about the corner lenses right next to the headlights correct?

If so....they are not meant to blink. The turn signals for these cars is in the bumper.

You can see a nice pic of the lights on my car

  6. Hello,

1990 Legacy L Sedan AWD Auto

Bought in August 01 with 124,000 KM

    Now has 160,400 KM

Have had the following replaced during that time to get it up to par.

    Rear Shocks.

    Front Left/Right Axles Shafts.

    Brakes Front/Rear Rotors and Pads.

    Fuel Line.

    Plugs/Wires.

    Alternator.

    Trans Flush.

    Diff Flush.

    Brake Flush.

    Crank Pully.

    Exhaust.

    Battery.

    Door Lock.

Shock wells / Wheel wells rebuilt.

I contiune to fight rust......on the doors, under the middle moulding/trim. It's even worse because it "bleeds" onto any work that you do in this area. Has anyone had any success in fixing this area? How hard is it to remove the doorskin? What, if any, clips break? I see my door skin is already cracked (smashed) around one of the screws. Are there clips that hold that trim on?

As well, the quarter panels are both going.... A local bodyshop said he couldn't get the wheel arches to begin to fix them. Anyone have any ideas where to get some? In Canada would be my preference. I tried rustrepair.com and received many email contridicting each other, it didn't build my confidience that I would get what I wanted when finished shipping from New Mexico :)

Lastly, Just yesterday I had my read swaybar removed, no more clunk. The dealer encouraged this as the whole end assembly was rotted out and to replace was too expensive. He also told me later years didn't even have them anyways, so I put that money into an alignment and front right stabilizer link....No more clunks...what a beautiful ride it is.....feels better than the first day I picked her up. Now if I can just beat the rust.

    PS

Must say that this board is great and has enabled me to ditch one mechanic and understand many more.
