  1. Could the rear axle tube just be swapped out of the 4x4 car in one piece with the rear end still mounted to it? Does the Fwd car have the two Center bearing mount points on it, but without bolt holes? Same with the rear diff support?
  2. Yes that was the original thoughts, but the unibody is cancer ridden and probably not safe to do more than drive to the mail box and back. Plus I am really not a fan of the carb I have on the 85, between age and wear and tear a good portion of the rubber (hoses etc.) under the hood are not in the best shape. It has done well in the 80k+ miles I have put on it since I have owned it, has only left me stranded 3 times. Not bad for a $500 car.
  3. I have had a similar problem on a 85 GL wagon. I found the sound was coming from the cone wedge/ spacer that fits into the hub before the washer and castle nut go on. I didn't have any play or slope in my wheel either, but torquing the castle nut to the listed lbs stopped it. I think it took at least two re-torques (couple hundred miles inbetween) to get it to stop. Hope this helps.
  4. Hello everyone, I have a question about possible drivetrain options. I have a 85 Gl wagon with a Ea82 carb, 5 speed MT, D/R transfer, 4x4, and the motor has gone south on it. I just purchase a 92 Loyale wagon with a Ea82 Tbi, FWD, and 5 speed MT. My question is if the 4x4 drivetrain can be swaped into the Loyale from the clutch back. I am aware the exhaust on the Fwd cars runs were the drive shaft runs on the 4x4 models and I would have to cut a access for the transfer case shifter. Other than that will the rear end components bolt on to the Fwd car without modifications outside of swaping parts? Any input on the matter would be appreciated.
  5. Questionable! I have not done much with wiring harnesses, but always willing to try. Would I be looking at changing out fuse boxes? The fuel injection on the donor car is Throttle body( I believe) and not SPI, if that changes anything. I would consider switching out the motor and keeping the carb also.
  6. I have a 1985 GL Wagon with a 5 speed manual, carbed 1.8L, 4 wheel drive. The car has 236,000 miles on it and is very tired. I wanted to know if anyone could tell me if I could swap a FI (throttle body) engine out of the same model and year car. Both are manual transmisions and 4 wheel drive. I have access to the whole parts car and believe everything is still intact, except for some odds and ins I have already scavaged off of it. The FI motor looks to have less than a dozen vacumm lines, where as the carbed engine has to many to count. My current car also has full digital dash and the donor is guaged, if that would make a diffrence. Any information would be helpful. Please ask if there is any information needed.
