  1. The idea to pull throttle linkage from my hitachi and move it to the Weber was really slick. I busted the Weber bolt and was looking at how to rig what I had left when I remembered that GD had put up a picture of his setup. http://home.comcast.net/~trilinear/weber_linkage.jpg It worked like a charm and seemed more true to the essence of my rig. Thanks GD. Again... KNOPPER's questions are in my mind as well. I am just finishing up my first Weber install. I have been looking across the board at intake manifold shots and reading. Still a shot of a clean weber install, full intake, eludes me. If any of you guys are particularly proud of your intake please post a shot. I am into that kind of thing. Greg
  2. 273,000. 87 Brat. No major engine or transmission work. Btw. the car has been totaled twice. God I love her... and what a babe magnet!
  3. I hadn't considered adding gauges to my brat until I was advised to check my oil pressure with a mech gauge by folks up here. Now I am wondering, do you gurus run any separate gauges? If so which ones and what kind? On a side note I'd be interested in some nice options for mounting them. Anybody got pride in a gauge install? Any warning or tips on heading down this road?
  4. The problem exists under all driving conditions when the issue is ON. When it is off she is perfect. No smoke noticed but I'll keep an eye on that. No noticeable vacume line suck sound. Btw, my method has always been to listen for the suck sound. Is there a better way to verify that the lines are all good? I noticed an odd thing that might be of use here. I spent some time adjusting the idle last weekend. I set it at about 800. The next day, she was running good but the idle was at about 400. I grabbed a screw driver and cranked her back up to 800. The next day she was running good but idle was now at 1100. I cranked her back down to 800. This morning, running good but shes at 400 again. I feel like this should mean something but it is beyond me. Unless otherwise directed I will swap the fuel filter this weekend and recheck the lines. As to Carb jets, I have never got into a carb too deep. Other than hose it with carb cleaner, any tips there? Thanks again guys.
  5. My brat has an intermittent issue that has me lost. I am hoping this will sound familiar to one of you guys. The engine purrs wonderfully most of the time. Proper idle, good power, she is as good as it gets. Then, she will suddenly start running rough. She will die if I let off of the gas. It feels almost like she is missing but the electrical is pretty fresh. The problem happens warm or cold. Once she is running good it never seems to pop up until I shut her off and restart. Even then it is maybe one in ten times she goes wrong. I have noticed that she can start off running bad but occasionally when I get her out on the freeway something will give and the problem goes away. I was thinking maybe a fuel filter? Another issue that may be related. Her oil pressure has been running too high. It floats up against redline. Warm or cold, always the same. Thanks in advance for any help. I will work this out either way but your advice always moves the ball forward.
  6. I have this issue but the gauge stays up against redline, hot or cold. I swapped the PCV valve but it had no effect. To be honest, I never expected to have a high oil pressure issue. I have owned brats for over 20 years and have never run into this. Is this bad for the engine? Any ideas for a fix? btw: I sure admire you guys. I have worked, swapped about everything that can go wrong over the years and you guys put me to shame. Thanks for sharing your vast experience. I love these old cars and more than once you have help me keep them on the road.
