  1. if i recall correctly there was a discussion a long time ago about cleaning the engine out using just a jar of good ole water. gives comparable results as other more expensive methods. kind of a steam cleaning on the innards....
  2. a quick question on tranny filters... can anyone tell me what they're made of? the filters themselves. i ask because i recently pulled the external filter off and i turned the filter upside down to drain out the fluid and i found a couple little pieces of a porcelin<sp?> material but i'm not sure if it actually came out of the filter itself or was a piece of something else that was already in the drain pan... i'm waiting for an external filter to arrive and was wondering perhaps i should drop the tranny fluid pan and check the internal filter while i have it drained...
  3. that's what i needed. thanks a bunch... really appreciate the help... i'll let ya'll know if that's what my suby needed though... and i'll be keeping my fingers crossed....
  4. yeah i should've been a bit more clear on that. i can't find the filter as in anywhere to buy one. can ya reccomend a site online or anything. i went to advance auto parts yesterday and they didn't have the filter or even the kit. i even had the guy run the parts# and it was the same one as you(legacy777) just posted so any help here would be great. i just need to find somewhere to order the filter or kit from.
  5. ok look, i must be hella dumb but i can not find the external filter anywhere!!! all i keep getting is the internal tranny filter not the external one that resembles a fuel filter. someone please help me!!! i even tried running the part# through several sites and nothing.... please i'm begging over here..... i need my suby back!!!
  6. nope no drips, levels check out fine, and no i haven't changed the filter yet and i'm hoping that's what it might be. thanks for the reply, although i used to be registered on the old board ya know;) it's just been a while i guess so i had to re-register:eek: oh and by-the-by, any ideas on a price for said filter? and where one might acquire one? thanks again...
  7. hey all, i'm having problems with my 92 legacy 4wd turbo sedan. it's been sitting now for over a year just about and i'm at my wits end. the problem just started one fine day after a nice long spirited drive. the thing is the tranny just seemed to loose "power"(for lack of a better word) while i was making my way home and i found that after parking i had lost reverse. there were no noises to indicate any problems(i.e. loud clunks or thuds) and also it's not quite like the tranny is slipping either just a loss in "power". i haven't tried anything since the end of last summer due to a lack of an indoor environment in which to work on it so now that it's getting nice out again i want desperately to try and get to the bottom of this. the fluid level seems fine and with "only" 120,000 miles on the car i'm wondering if the tranny filter could be the culprit? oh and by the way anyone know about how much a filter will set me back? well any ideas would be appreciated. ok just read a couple other posts about filter lines being clogged and such and causing problems with the trannys. is this a viable cause for loosing reverse? and when i say loosing reverse i mean that it just sits and sounds like it's in neutral when i put it in reverse. doesn't sound like it's slipping more like it didn't engage.?.? perhaps a solenoid? or maybe a clogged line? would a tranny flush do more harm than good? i've heard some cases of people having their tranny's flushed in older cars and it actually blowing seals out and causing more harm than anything...
