  1. Driving down the street and all of a sudden I hear this sudden constant rattling under the hood. Open the hood and the radiator fan isn't spinning and is shaking violently. I turn off the engine and inspect the belts which seem fine, but the radiator fan is just hanging loose. Whats the scoop?

  2. to the people saying how this isn't a problem in idaho-SHUT THE HELL UP!

washington and idaho are right next to exact other. So you will have tons of WA cars coming into idaho dripping with salt.It won't be as bad as washington but WE WILL STILL RUST! or what happens when you need to drive in WA?Around here the walmart is is WA and Pull and Save Is in spokane,WA.Two trips where anything I drive will start rusting away. Not to mention all the countless other trips in WA.

ID and WA share alot of things.Within 30 miles of here there a 4 cities with a wa/ID border:

    clarkston,wa/lewiston,id Pullman,wa/Moscow,ID

    etc

    or what about Spokane/CDA?

Salt in WA will effect us here.

No need to get hasty. Not all of the people in Idaho live as close to the Washington border as you do. Oh and thanks for informing me that WA is right next to ID. I had no idea

  3. Thinking about painting my roof black. I've seen one or two that have painted the entire roof black but what I'm really looking for is someone who has painted the roof black but left the A pillar and along the top of the doors the normal color. Pics of either would be greatly appreciated.

  4. I have recently noticed that my passenger side CV boot has cracked and sprayed a bunch of grease in the back of my engine bay. The joint itself is now starting to make a light clicking sound when slowing down. I have taken corners and bumps very cautiously. I may have to take a trip next week that will be about 600 miles round trip. I dont have the money to fix this for a few weeks. My question is how long can I expect to go? Am I damaging more things by continuing to drive it like this? Whats the worst that can happen while driving? '87 GL 4X4 Wagon.

  5. haha...yeah definitely using the word expert loosely. Definitely have a lot to learn and quite a few years until even considering myself the "resident expert." Thanks for all the advice. Thanks to your reply my GL is now running like a champ. Even took her on a nice little fishing trip today.

  6. So I forgot to put on the two bolts that hold the airbox solid. Put those on and the sound decreased somewhat. Its not so much of a squeal as it is a whistle. Sounds like its coming directly behind the carb. I was able to tune the carb today perfectly. Drove it all day. Even chirped them in 3rd which I think was a fluke, not exactly sure how that one happened. But then later on, when I put it in neutral it dies. Should I replace all the hoses behind the carb or is the egr behind the carb and possibly the issue. When I spray the carb cleaner back there the motor speeds up. Sorry for my lack of knowledge. I swear when I'm done with this thing I'm gonna be an expert. I've already learned a lot. Thanks

  7. Where and what exactly does the egr look like? How do I know if its the egr thats acting up? Do you suggest I replace mine? I was able to spray carb cleaner behind the motor and the motor instantly sped up. It was too dark out at this point to find the exact hose but I'll look again this morning.

  8. Got the Hitachi working. Actually used the top part of the one I just purchased in the junkyard and the bottom of my old crummy one. My crummy one had a no bueno choke and a stuck valve on top....so I combined the top of the junkyard one (tried everything I could do to get the entire junkyard carb to work but appears it may need to be rebuilt, even though it looked like new). So now I throw in the combined carb, tune it, and she runs way better. Just have a vacuum leak somewhere as there is a high pitched squeal. Gonna try to fix that in the morning.

  9. I pulled 3 that were right on top. The one that would be closest to the front of the car was the one that said 70 on it.

(All 3 have different appearances. One is a small screw which was the one that was clogged and also the closest to the back, the other is a longer hollow one, and the one that says 70 on it is also longer and comes to a point on the very bottom.)

  10. haha. yeah I've seen quite a few, just not what I'm looking for. I'm just surprised because this carb looks virtually brand new, and 1000 times better than the one that I pulled out. I just cant imagine having to clean the jets with the condition that its in. I've rebuilt a motorcycle carb before but it was also not as complex. On a side note, a few times I was able to get the car at idle around 2k rpms for a few minutes, even pulled a vacuum hose at idle and it stayed there. But then eventually it slows until it dies. If I get it to Idle and then rev it then it wont go back to idle, most of the time. The choke is working because at one point it started revving up to about 3k for awhile, however when this happened the motor was completely warmed. I'm just frustrated at this point. I feel like this could be a simple thing that is being overlooked.
