  1. Dude

Fix it quick. We're replacing our '97 leggy wagon 2.2 because of a stuck thermostat. Warped a head in less than 4 hrs and now have a leaking

(blown?)head gasket. Only got 198,00 and change little perturbed cause we heard these motors are bulletproof and were hoping for 200k before any nickle and dime stuff.Waiting on a '96 OBS w/a '99 2.2 and 5spd now.

    good luck!

  2. Well, your legacy and mine are noticeably the same. Same body, but with the GT I think (think) has the hood scoop, the GT wheels, the sunroof/moonroof thingy, and the spoiler.

The hood scoop should come in handy for the TMIC if you went with a JDM EJ20TT swap. That engine is ~280hp. (you can find them on ebay for $1000+. I've seen then go for $1500 to $4000 personally) You'll need the ECU, engine harness, exhaust, and probably the fuel pump would be nice. Or upgrade to a walbro pump or something...

if you choose to keep your 2.5L, the most obvious choices are...

    1. header

    2. cat-back

    3. weight reduced pulley (or set)

    4. lightened flywheel

    5. better transmission (6 speed?)

As for the header, most obvious choices are cobb, borla, and TWE. I have no useage experience in any, but it seems that people like cobb and twe for performance and borla for the real "flat-four" developing sound. And the borla is the least expensive to my knowledge.

Exhaust, of course, the same manufacturers.

There are crank pulleys and whole pulley sets for cars that are lightened. every pound off the crank (flywheel or pulley, ect.) relives about somewhere above 1 hp (like 1.2 or 1.4, I don't remember the given number) of lost hp in the drivetrain, back to the ground. Not that you are gaining Hp, but that you're engine doesn't have to work as hard to get it on the ground. so your loss in the drivetrain isn't as high. (that explanation works)

don't forget cams/pistons/headwork. valves, porting and polishing, 3 angle valve cut, ect. some of that stuff can get expensive.

There's tons of options I think for the 2.5L. I'm not sure as to which yours is an open deck or semi open deck engine, but if it IS open deck, I'm not one to suggest turboing it. If you want SERIOUS power, but still have some driveability (ie: not relying on serious monster N/A cams) go with an engine swap. also, if you do go N/A and keep the EJ25, an intercooler and oil cooler would help. ;)

Were you sugesting a intercooler on a nonturbo car? If so what would be benefits and how would you do it?

  3. I have a '97 Legacy Wagon that hit a snow bank before I bought it. The front bumper cover was replaced. Private sale.

The mech is a dealer mech and did the work on the car at the dealership.

Its been measured out and is straight. My hood however sits cockeyed -one side higher than the other and kinda crooked. Does anyone know how these parts (left\right fenders, hood, headlights, bumper cover) fit and are adjusted

so I could try to at least get my hood straight? Also does the front bumper have "shock absorbers" and could they be misaligned leading to this problem?

    Thanx,

  4. Guess I jumped on this thread late-didn't want to step on toes-

I am also looking for a factory stock cd player. My reason? Unless you go

sat'lite or uber high end with the vidgame pinball displays the radio section on most after market gear sucks.I'm talking pioneer sony blau ect. Live in ruraul N.E.K.VT. and you need a good reciever to pickup anything other than the local kicker station. Need the rad to get VPR, and CKUT (90.3) out of Montrebec -I think they stream -good station.

    thanx,

    kdub

  5. Graig,

thanx-your answer leads to my next Q?: Where can I find a chart or post of

the various years specs that would include things like anti roll dia. suspension

compatibilty changes thru the years-intake,exhaust, wheel sizes and the like-

these cars seem to be almost cross model plug and play searched for a while

and found close to nada-anyone have better luck than me (I hope!)

anyway thanx again-theres a wrecked wrx I got to check

    later,

    kdub
