  1. The new caliper fixed it! The dual pistons needed to go back in about 1/8" more. The sliders were good, and I reused the slider without re-building it. This was very weird because I never thought to test the rotation of the wheel after the tire was installed.
  2. I got a new caliper, and it looks like the old needed about 1/8" more compression. So even though the caliper was loose on the rotor, bolting the wheel on tried to compress it more into the caliper. Let's hope this it, I'm half way through installing it, and it raining
  3. I just finished a front brake job, and took it for a test drive. When I got I could smell the brakes. My right front rotor was blue from the heat. I took the tire off, and the hot rotor had play, when I bolted the tire back on the brakes are dragging? Could it be a bad caliper, where piston is not all of the way in?
  4. My in-laws are from Maine, and they are spraying this mixture called brine on the roads before storms. It's worst than salt, it's rusting out everybody's brake lines.
  5. OK, I'm trying to track down my P0442 code problem. I've read all of the posts. I previously had a mechanic replace the purge solenoid. I pull the inner fender wall to take a look at the fuller tube and it looks pretty rusty. I tried to follow it, an it seems to go way into the abyss above the rear suspension. So where is the vent solenoid, and is changing the filler tube on a 2001 Legacy a nightmare?
  6. I havn't yet figured out the Subaru acronyms, so I'll ask a rookie question. I get the engine designation 2.2 and 2.5, but need help on other designations, can someone point me to a page?
  7. I re-charged the system and the a/c is working fine. What is weird is the system had a static pressure of 60 psi before I evacuated it? The compressor was coming on and no cooling. The manifold gauges were showing 25/100 psi low/high readings. Prior to the a/c going out I had a bad radiator and a couple of overheating episodes. I figured I would evacuate the system to ensure that I added the right amount of r134a gas.
  8. i'm actually tring to figure out why the went out, since it's now holding a vacuum. I'll pick a dryer and O rings.
  9. OK, vacuumed for 45 minutes and it's holding after a 90 minutes. Should I use at least one can r134a with sealer?
  10. OK, I evacuated the system a brought the system down to -30Kpa. After I closed the valves and turned off the vacuum the system slowly went down to -22Kpa after an hour and is holding at that pressure. One of the other posts mentioned that this might indicate that the dryer should be replaced? This looks like the dryer with pressure switch on top. What kind of connector is that, and do I need some kind of gasket stuff?
  11. What is the capacity of r134a in the a/c system for my 2.5 legacy? I plan evacuating the system and re-charging.
