  1. 1997 Legacy 2.5 DOHC 225k. Came to me overheating randomly, could not get it to overheat when I drove it, changed the t-stat, gave it back to the girl. Came back again soon after, overheating again, does it consistently. Diagnosed it as a blown head gasket, installed used engine w/ 175k, was out of good running car, flushed heater core. Started up, overheated first run (shut it off before it got too hot), and no heat in vehicle. Found radiator partially plugged, replaced radiator, tested cooling fans w/ jumpper wires, ok, t-stat not stuck. Is there a place to burp the cooling sys on a '97? could not find one myself. I'm not getting coolant leakage anywhere, and no bubbles in the radiator, which would lead me NOT to believe the head gaskets are gone in the newer engine too. anyone experience this before? any solutions found? if everything is good on the newer engine, what else is there that would make it overheat the same way with both engines? any common problem that would cause cooling fans not to get power to them?
  2. ok, pulled the converter back out, and there is a wire clip over the larger shaft going into the tranny that got bent. I pulled the clip out, as its ruined now, and the converter slides right into place, no problem. what does this clip do? can i reassemble without the clip?
  3. Have a 1997 Legacy 2.5 DOHC I am replacing the engine in. Pulled the engine and the torque converter slid out of the tranny a bit and now I can not get it to slide back in all the way. Did not realize it at first untill I put the new engine in and as I attempted to tighten the bell housing bolts, it became apparent there was an issue. I pulled the engine back out, and now the converter will not slide in the last inch or so. I can just barely get it to make contact with the starter gear when engaged, but I can see where it used to make contact, and can not get it to this point. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, or if something is damaged, if anyone has any clue please help me!
