  1. Does anyone out there have an owners manual for a 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback? Thanks, Jo
  2. Kelley Blue Book price for Retail (all they list is excellent condition) is $7,885 for that amount of miles.
  3. Well, the deal on th 1992 Subaru SVX fell through. Now we are looking at a 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback with 120,000 miles on it. They are asking $5,400 for it. We are needing a second car and of course, we are sold on Subarus. Thanks for any help you can give to us. Jo
  4. We are thinking of buying a 1992 Subaru SVX. It has 102,000 miles on it. Is there anything I should know about this car before purchasing it? It is automatic transmission. Thanks, Jo
  5. We have a 1990 Legacy with transaxle problems which began by shift shock. We immediately had transmission oil and filter replaced and noted that transmission fluid was dark as fluid was changed. Then is when the motor started reving at shifts and would rev at around 60 - 65 mph mostly. If you become aggressive engine will rev in any gear. In our Haynes service manual it notes when this occurs mostly its because band may require adjusting and advises not to exceed 3/4 turn tightening but to adjust in small increments and test. But fails to tell method of tightening in - or - out of the adjusting screw. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, jowens
  6. The problem is more prevalent at low tank level. It shows up more frequently going up hills. There is 78,000 miles on the car. The most recent tune up was done at around 56,000.
  7. We have a 2002 Subaru Legacy Outback. We are wondering if it has water in the gas tank. The check engine light is on. What the car is doing is ever so often the engine hiccups and then continues without interruption. It is nothing consistent. It doesn't do it all the time. We took it to Auto Zone to check the engine code and it comes up code PO304. Mechanic recommended putting in E85 gasoline to remove the water if that is what it is. Fuel filter was checked to see if water was in it. No water was found. New fuel filter was installed. We have put STP gas treatment and Lucas gas treatment in it. This all occurred after having filled up with gasoline at a service station taken over under new management. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jo
  8. I found out that we replaced injector #2 and #4. Right now only #2 is misfiring. Thanks!
  9. I'll have to find out from my husband. We don't have access to internet at home, only at work. Thanks!
  10. Have a '90 Legacy wagon 2.2 automatic. Don't know what to do next. Engine is misfiring and so far we can't get it resolved. Our mechanic is still trying to figure it out. We have replaced air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires and replaced 2 fuel injectors. It is still misfiring. What do we check for next? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We need this car fixed badly.
  11. How do you get into the air filter box to change the air filter on a 2002 Outback? Thanks!
  12. We have a 1990 Legacy Wagon. The AC compressor clutch fails to stay energized. It energizes only at random. We've replaced the mode control panel and also replaced the accumulator sensor. When the clutch is energized, it does put out cold air. It has occasional rapid engagement and disengagement of the clutch and occasional rare and infrequent engagement of the clutch. We are at our wits end trying to figure out what is wrong with it. Any help we can get would be greatly appreciated. We are 100 miles from any Subara dealers so trying to figure it out ourselves. Sure would like to find out something today as we are going to try to work on it again this weekend. Thanks in advance. jowens
  13. I wish someone would reply to your problem with your AC. I have a '90 legacy and we seem to have the same problem. On mine if you change it to defrost or heat or anything else and then change it back to AC, usually it will not change. So we try to leave it on AC throughout the summer. Makes it difficult when you need to defrost though. Thanks, Jo QUOTE=saw]My '91 legacy has 175K on it. The AC has never been serviced. Over the past 3 years of operation the unit has become intermittent. Its as though it has a mind of its own. In the morning, when I go to work, the AC is reluctant to come on. Sometimes I'm a mile from the job, and it decides its time to cool the car. Other times it may kick on almost immediately and remain that way or go instantly back off. When it does come on, it cools the car as it did when new. When I go out to lunch and the interior of the car is hot, the AC comes on 100% of the time and operates great all the way to my destination. When I leave my lunch stop to return to work, however, the AC becomes more iffy. It may come on immediately and work fine or have a delayed start and operate intermittently on the way back to work. Occasionally, I get into the car and drive it for 20miles and the AC works perfectly. Any suggestions?
  14. We just bought a 2002 Outback and will be changing the engine oil this weekend. Is there anything in particular we need to be aware of before doing this? Also we've always purchased Haynes repair manuals for our cars. I checked and there's not one available for the '02 Outback. Any suggestions on a good repair manual? Thanks in advance! Jo
  15. I am having an electrical problem with my '90 Legacy Wagon. The first thing noticed was with the AC, the compressor would work sometimes and not sometimes. Now I have noticed a clicking sound in the dash and when that occurs, the engine hesitates (I guess that's the way to describe it) and the compressor stops on the AC. It will go along like this for a few miles and then it will quit and engine and AC works fine. Then it will do it again. It's an off and on sort of thing. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance for any help given.
