  1. Agree prolly a good price is $4500. That is about what I spent on my 99 OBW last December. Suggest you do an internet search for used car prices by looking at Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds Used car prices. Print out the prices, then use the info to get bargain the price lower.

I have both a 98 and 99 OB Wagons, and have not had any trouble with blowing head gaskets. I have heard that the problem affects about 10 to 15 % of these cars. So, I keep holding my breath that I own a car in the 85 to 90% side of the ledger that never has hg problems.

BTW, I am very satisfyed with both cars. They both drive nice, with no unusual expensive repairs so far.

Kelley Blue Book price for Retail (all they list is excellent condition) is $7,885 for that amount of miles.

  2. We have a 1990 Legacy with transaxle problems which began by shift shock. We immediately had transmission oil and filter replaced and noted that transmission fluid was dark as fluid was changed. Then is when the motor started reving at shifts and would rev at around 60 - 65 mph mostly. If you become aggressive engine will rev in any gear. In our Haynes service manual it notes when this occurs mostly its because band may require adjusting and advises not to exceed 3/4 turn tightening but to adjust in small increments and test. But fails to tell method of tightening in - or - out of the adjusting screw. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

  3. P0304 is "Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected". If that's the only code, it's hard to tell if gas quality is an issue; since there apparently aren't codes for the other cylinders, it might be less likely.

Does the problem seem related to the tank level (is the problem any more or less evident at full or near-empty)? Does it show up any more frequently going up/down hills or on curves?

How many miles are on the car? When was the most recent tuneup done (replacement of spark plugs, possibly ignition wires, etc.)?

The problem is more prevalent at low tank level. It shows up more frequently going up hills. There is 78,000 miles on the car. The most recent tune up was done at around 56,000.

  4. We have a 2002 Subaru Legacy Outback. We are wondering if it has water in the gas tank. The check engine light is on. What the car is doing is ever so often the engine hiccups and then continues without interruption. It is nothing consistent. It doesn't do it all the time. We took it to Auto Zone to check the engine code and it comes up code PO304. Mechanic recommended putting in E85 gasoline to remove the water if that is what it is. Fuel filter was checked to see if water was in it. No water was found. New fuel filter was installed. We have put STP gas treatment and Lucas gas treatment in it. This all occurred after having filled up with gasoline at a service station taken over under new management. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jo

  5. Have a '90 Legacy wagon 2.2 automatic. Don't know what to do next. Engine is misfiring and so far we can't get it resolved. Our mechanic is still trying to figure it out. We have replaced air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires and replaced 2 fuel injectors. It is still misfiring. What do we check for next? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We need this car fixed badly.

  6. We have a 1990 Legacy Wagon. The AC compressor clutch fails to stay energized. It energizes only at random. We've replaced the mode control panel and also replaced the accumulator sensor. When the clutch is energized, it does put out cold air. It has occasional rapid engagement and disengagement of the clutch and occasional rare and infrequent engagement of the clutch. We are at our wits end trying to figure out what is wrong with it. Any help we can get would be greatly appreciated. We are 100 miles from any Subara dealers so trying to figure it out ourselves. Sure would like to find out something today as we are going to try to work on it again this weekend.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. I wish someone would reply to your problem with your AC. I have a '90 legacy and we seem to have the same problem. On mine if you change it to defrost or heat or anything else and then change it back to AC, usually it will not change. So we try to leave it on AC throughout the summer. Makes it difficult when you need to defrost though.

    Thanks,

    Jo

QUOTE=saw]My '91 legacy has 175K on it. The AC has never been serviced.

Over the past 3 years of operation the unit has become intermittent. Its as though it has a mind of its own. In the morning, when I go to work, the AC is reluctant to come on. Sometimes I'm a mile from the job, and it decides its time to cool the car. Other times it may kick on almost immediately and remain that way or go instantly back off. When it does come on, it cools the car as it did when new.

When I go out to lunch and the interior of the car is hot, the AC comes on 100% of the time and operates great all the way to my destination. When I leave my lunch stop to return to work, however, the AC becomes more iffy. It may come on immediately and work fine or have a delayed start and operate intermittently on the way back to work.

Occasionally, I get into the car and drive it for 20miles and the AC works perfectly. Any suggestions?

  8. I am having an electrical problem with my '90 Legacy Wagon. The first thing noticed was with the AC, the compressor would work sometimes and not sometimes. Now I have noticed a clicking sound in the dash and when that occurs, the engine hesitates (I guess that's the way to describe it) and the compressor stops on the AC. It will go along like this for a few miles and then it will quit and engine and AC works fine. Then it will do it again. It's an off and on sort of thing. Any ideas on what might be wrong? Thanks in advance for any help given.
