  1. Before you buy and install a new cable, it might be good to check the adjustment nuts on the end of the clutch cable. If they had become loose and backed off, it might give you the same symptoms. Find the fork that comes straight up out of the bell housing, where the cable slides into it. See if there is lots of slop in the cable. Tighten the nut (or nuts, if you still have the jam nut there, too. I suspect that the jam nut was not tightened, and backed off, allowing the adjusting nut to unscrew away from it's proper place. Good luck and let us know if you get it fixed. Jim
  2. Thanks, guys. However, the A/C problem is not a lack of cooling, but a lack of some control signal. I have hot wired the clutch on and it blows really cold, and the pressure gauge on the R134A can shows it to be right where it should be. I have juice on all fusible links (both ends) and the lone 15A fuse over on the right strut tower. I have not checked the low pressure switch or the thermostat switch that is somewhere in the blower box. I was hoping to find info on where that stuff is and sorta how to track it down. I've read that the low pressure shutoff switch is 2 pin and also 4 pin. 2 pins; I get. 4 don't make obvious sense. The pulse sensor is adjusted. Clutch never even tries to engage. I installed the adapters for R134A, thinking that the pressure might be low and I need to fully convert, but seeing normal pressure, I stopped in my tracks. Thermodynamically, everything works great. It's the electrical control that is not sending juice to the clutch on the compressor. Do these clues suggest something? I have not checked the A/C relay, either. I did find it, however. Thanks.
  3. I'm in search of tech manuals to repair the A/C on my 93 Loyale. Where would I find them? Is there a general repository of tech manuals somewhere? Thanks. Jim
  4. Y'all, I'm amazed at the info on this board. I'm new to Subaru's and very happy with mine. Just redid the heads/seals/etc. Having problems with the A/C. It never kicks on, even briefly. I forced the clutch on by hotwiring it and the A/C blows very cold. Still has the R12 in it in the blue (good) range as measured on a R134A gauge. I was in the middle of converting it but saw it was still charged, so I stopped. Something in the electrical system is preventing it from engaging. I checked the following and are fine: Fusible links, 15A lone relay on right strut tower. Both have juice. I have not checked the low pressure switch (way down on right side of radiator??) or even been able to find the low temp cutout thermostat that is supposedly in the blower box (can't find that, either). I cannot locate any useful info on the A/C system, anywhere. I have Haynes and Chilton, which are great for doilies, but weak on info. Pulser sensor on pump is adjusted. Pump never comes on even briefly, which is a symptom of the pulser circuit being bad. It never even tries. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jim
  5. I'm a noob, here. My 93 Loyale wagon has an oil leak that is stinky and loses engine oil. It drips on the catalytic converter. The drip appears to be coming from the passenger side, at the base of the cylinder where a gasket is. I've checked the valve covers and they're tight. Is there a typical problem with an oil leak like this one? Should I try one of those chemicals that stop leaks? I'd say it loses a quart every fillup. Thanks.
