  1. I've heard full-synth motor is only for very new cars. Is this true? If it's not true can I just go to full-synth at my next oil change? I have been using a synth-blend for the past year or so. thanks
  2. I haven't received any complaints from toher drivers on the road from my SilverStars and I rellay like what they do for me at night on unlit roads. So, I'm pleased with them...totally.
  3. One night of driving with my new Sylvania Silverstars and I really like them. I'm waiting to go driving down a unlit road at night to get the full effect.
  4. Those replace the 9007 bulbs? If so, I am bummed. I wanted to get bulbs that were the brightest legally, but was told xenon bulbs were only for cars equipped with xenon sockets which I thought I didn't have in my '98 OBW.
  5. Bought the Sylvania Silverstars last night, but have yet to do any nighttime driving...very anxious. $43.00 per pair at O'Reilly's store. I switched out one and compared it to the factory headlight and noticed a slight difference in brightness, BUT this was the reflection off of a beige wall in the evening, not total darkness, so we'll see.
  6. I looked in to the Silverstars and am impressed with their specs. Not a bad price either. Does anyone know if the Silverstars are illegal?
  7. I went to www.midnightmoose.com and they only had H$ listed as a replacement for my '98 OBW, so does anyone have any other thoughts on the H4 replacement for factory?
  8. OIC, so I won't be to use H4's? So I need to look for bulbs that have the 9007 # on them? I'm looking for something as bright as I can get...legally.
  9. Hey guys, I drive a '98 OBW with factory headlights. I want brighter headlights, but don't want to install a whole new headlight assembly, just the bulbs. I have read about these H4 bulbs. Are they a drastic improvement over factory bulbs, and if so, which brand/type should I get? thanks
  10. those are some good solutions I didn't even think about...glad I'm not the only one with this weird problem. The H4's? How do they differ from stock?
  11. I have 98 OBW that has a peculiar problem. I have experienced my headlights vibrating or working themselves loose to the point of going out. My driver's side has done it twice (the first time I went to replace the bulb and as soon as I touched it to disconnect the plug the light came back on) and last night it happened to my pass. side all I had to do was tap the plug (under the hood) with my hand and the headlight came back ON...weird.
  12. How difficult exactly (on a scale of 1-5) is replacing the rear struts on a '98 OBW? Like compared to replacing the spark plugs say? I'm mechanically inclined and love to work on cars (did extensive work on my 1974 MGB), but would hate to bite-off more than I can chew with the family car. I'm also tired of getting jacked around by dishonest mechanics especially at the Subaru dealership near my house.
  13. I noticed the same problem/sound last week at 184,000 mi. in my '98 OBW. I think it's my shocks/struts as well because my '88 DL did the same thing, but much louder and I had the rear shocks replaced and that solved it. Thanks for confiming my suspicion. Now...the price, anybody have any ideas what this is going to cost?
  14. As you will find most , if not all, on the board agree that you need to remove the windshield washer reservior and the battery. #4 will still you give a littel trouble though....got to it from underneath the car.
  15. Very cool for posting guys, thanks. My best so far (my first time being diligent at tracking gas mileage) has been 27.2 with mostly highway driving. This is with new spark plugs, fuel filter, and tires with alignment. So, not bad huh?
  16. Those of you who own '98 OBW, post your gas mileage...I would like to get a good idea of where my '98 OBW stands. Thanks for participating.
  17. Sometimes the answer is right in front of me. Thanks Commuter! and the rest of you guys.
  18. certainly sounds reasonable. so, how can you tell what kinda gas mileage you're getting if the gauge is inaccurate? For instance if I fill-up, run it down to 1/2 tank, then record mileage, then fill-up again, run it down to 1/2 tank then record the mileage. Add the 2 mileages together...is that accurate if the gauge is lowering slower in the 1st 1/2 tank? (Sorry if I confused you.) But you see what I'm saying?
  19. I have a 13 gal. tank. BTW I've never seen my low fuel light come on and I have driven to the last mark on the gauge...does that info help any?
  20. Has anyone noticed their 98 OBW or any other Subie gas gauge being inconsistnent? I neer notice this on my 88 DL. My 98 OBW's gauge will take a long time to drop throught first 1/4 tank then it seems to drop faster throught rest of the tank as if to compensate for the slower drop in the first 1/4. Ex: 1st 1/4~100+ mi. 2nd 1/4~75 mi. 3rd 1/4~50 mi. 4th 1/4~30 mi. this is all with varying driving conditions...mostly city and highway.
  21. No additional shims came with mine. I coated the back of each pad with anti-squeal spray (it's red and very sticky) and that was it. I am very pleased with the Thermo-Quiets (they're quiet, smooth, grabby etc.). Every car is a little different, but I highly recommend them.
