  1. Not a constant sound like a wheel bearing and does not get louder with speed. A CV will normally crack or grind when cranking the wheels. It serious sounds like a chunk of metal is hanging on a rope and a bump makes it swing into another piece of metal making a ker-plunk sound...
  2. On secondary paved roads the sound is more noticeable but, then you're also, going at slower speeds. The same with accelerating or slowing the sound is not as noticeable as going a constant speed but, it is still there. I have tried hitting bumps while breaking and this makes no difference to the sound.
  3. Have a very clean, well taken care of 2010 Forester with 47,000 miles and a progressively getting worse sound coming from the front end on even the small road imperfections. The sound was intermittent before warranty ran out and the dealer said they found nothing. If the Forester is loaded with passengers or a trip to Tractor supply the noise goes completely away. Been on numerous lifts and nothing is found. Ball joints and stabilizer bar links appear like new when wiggled and pried with a bar both on the lift (tires hanging) and on the ground. Springs are not broken and all exhaust shields are clean and tight. I have been under the car taping/beating on every part imaginable and nothing is found. Sound is like a very loose heavy part that is just banging around. I have laid on the ground and son bounces the front end but can not duplicate but, yet go 5mph out my wavy driveway and it sounds like you'll loose the whole front end..... Frustrating.... Thanks for any help.
  4. With that said it really is a choice of your preference in styles and condition of those in your market and price range.

  10. Thanks for all the replies, you guys are great ! I ran the car 200+ miles and wow, it runs like a top ! The visibility of the road is super and on our bumpy roads the ride is firm but, not harsh. Would it be best when putting a new timing belt to replace all the idlers, the noisy ones or just the toothed idler ?
  11. Thank you for the replies ! The dealer let us take it home for the weekend, wow what a difference the turbo makes over all the non turbo Subarus that I have owned. We drove it probably 30 some miles in some nasty winter condition and even hit some No-Winter Maintenance roads . When we got home we pulled it in a non heated garage to unload the groceries and all of a sudden the the garage was filled with a cloud of smoke and a different sorta smell..... I crawled under neath and open the hood to find nothing smoking or leaking ? I took it back out for a drive and watched the temp gauge and it was just below half then, pulled it back in the garage and let it run while checking and could not find any leaks or smoke ? Now I'm nervous..... B.T.W. Edmunds retail is $11597 and NADA is $11875.00 Thanks again !
  12. Hello looking at a sliver 2004 Forester with the turbo, automatic transmission, leather interior, 92K miles, 3 month warranty at a local Mopar dealer for $10,000. Very clean inside and out and engine sounds quiet and smooth. 1st. what is the reliability and what maintenance and parts does the turbo require ? Most local gas stations here in Western Pa. have 87, 89 and 93 Octane gas can you use any grade ? He has no information on if the Timing or serpitine belts have been changed so, I'm thinking of telling him to replace these 2 belts and we have a deal so, are aftermarket belts ok ? Anything else we should look at ? Thank you for any help ! Chuck S.
