  1. ive got a 1991 subaru loyale wagon 4wd that had some transmission issues, apple coring, and the usual stuff. so i had planned on swapping in a different transmision, and had a 2wd one that i was going to just swap the tail housing out of, well that doesnt work. anyways, i put the old tranny back in , and now it wont move at all. with the vehicle up on jack stands i can spin the wheels by hand in any gear, but the very second i put it on the ground i cant move the car at all. its like the tranny is locked up. it wont engage at all, but shifts thru the gears correctly. what have i missed? ive tried it in 4wd and 2wd. ive actualy replaced the governer with a non apple cored one also , same results. any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. thanks for all the great info , i may head out to the shop tonight and give it a look see. i left the haynes manual at my buddies house but hes bringing it over tomorrow , but looking at the spare tranny we have i tihnk i can tell which is which. ill also do some more searching now that i know what i need to search for. erik
  3. very new subaru guy here. a buddy and i bought a 1991 subaru loyale wagon with an automatic tranny, we had to swap in a different engine, from a parts loyale we got too, anyways, after finally getting it up and running, we relaized the transmission wasnt shifting when it was in drive, but it shifts fine manually. i heard rumor there is some kind of module on the outside ofthe trany that goes bad and can be replaced easily. is this true ? any ideas what could be the problem ? the fluid level is correct. thanks for any help. erik
