  1. Observers see rear wheels spin after starting the car, after waiting about a minute and trying again, they see just the front spin. I will turn the car off long enough to restart and the same thing happens all over again. I tried it again tonight after driving for about a half hour, same thing all over again.
  2. the car does move. After trying to trouble shoot tonight I have discovered the following. the AWD works when you first start the car for about a minute or less. I can shut the car off, restart and again the AWD will work for about a minute or less, and I can just keep doing this. I have the same results if I do this in low and if I have the transmission electrical plug unplugged. I really am now not convinced its my clutch pack because I can make work just by turning it off and restarting it.
  3. Well people, I sure hope someone can help me out. My AWD does not work completely. I have covered the following bases and the result is the same in each case. First of all checked for fuse installed (none), light is not on, on the dash. I have tried running it in low gear, by the way this is an automatic, I have disconected the plug at the transmission under the hood on the passengers side, after all this the result is as follows. When the car is first started the AWD works for about 30-60 seconds, then stops. I restart the car and again the AWD works for about 30-60 seconds, I turn the car off and restart and again the AWD works for about 30-60 seconds and I can keep doing this all night. If your wondering how I can tell all this, I live on an icy, snowy road and have people watching the rear wheels and it very clear to me driving when the AWD stops working. the car is a 1998 Legacy GT sedan. Any help for this problem is greatly appreciated. I am totally lost on this one.
  4. After some more testing I have discovered if the rear wheels are on solid ground and the front are on ice that the back wheels do not spin in reverse either. so basically my AWD is not working. Anybody have an idea what I need to do? I am very capable of doing the repair if I only knew what to do.
  5. Thanks for the reply John. When you say fluid do you mean my regular transmission fluid or is there something else in the transfer case portion? and if it is in the transfer how do i change that? Is there a drain and fill plug? Also the link you attached is for timing belt, could you post the link for the transfer?
  6. I have recently purchased a 1998 subaru legacy GT, installed a used motor from a 1999 GT. The problem is my AWD seems to work in reverse (back wheels will spin on ice) but the AWD does not work in forward (rear wheels do not spin on ice). I used the transmission from the 1998. Help.
