  1. Was rear-ended need the whole door and Right tail light.
  2. I just turned it over and Im pleased to report it just needed to be jumped! The oil looks like a sludgy brown/gray color. the Carb needed a little bit of adjustment so it wouldn't stall, also gray/blue smoke out the tail pipe.:-\
  3. added a photo bucket link, to my pictures, check it out. http://s1132.photobucket.com/home/onelegwonder/index
  4. Thanks for the information.
  5. First off it has sat for a year (embarrassed to admit). Before I parked it two main things were going going on: 1. dark blue/gray smoke from the tail pipe. 2. low compression test. sporadic ideal (A friend had rebuilt the carb a year before) but seemed to always have issues with getting the ideal set just right. Noted also that carb is leaking a strong fuel smell when running. Other issues: Engine and transmission leaks: Oil pump leak (something with the switch??) Valve cover caskets Oil pan casket Shift shaft linkage seal Axil boots: Needs both front axils Engine and Trans mount: Pre heat tube missing Wheel barrings: Shot in both front Steering components: Ball joints shot Inner tire rods shot Ive always taken this little vehicle to mechanics and lots of folks have tinkered with it, so I feel very removed from learning about what really might be going on. Looking to educate myself and get under the hood and get this going on my own if I can. Need a tool set and and I honestly feel somewhat overwhelmed with the project. But I don't have the heart to sell this this vehicle.
  6. Colorado Subaru owner looking for suggestions on getting my little ru running. I would really just like to put another engine in, any ideas on where to get a solid one?
  7. Colorado Subaru owner looking for suggestions on getting my little ru running. I would really just like to put another engine in, any ideas on where to get a solid one? Im not terribly mechanical or have much in the way of tools, but would love to learn. http://s1132.photobucket.com/home/onelegwonder/index
  8. Don_Quixpunch, thanks i think i am leaning towards replacing the engine. yodannyc, id be interested in talking to you! thanks for offering you help. baccaruda, nope no stickers on the valve covers.
  9. Thanks everyone, I have had to take some time and refreshed my memory, see my Subaru '81GL Hatchback was having some performance issues and I happen to be in a spot to buy another vehicle which I did. Now guilt set has set in and I would like to focus on my old Subaru. My Subaru has 194,000 +/- miles In a nut shell I always have performed routine maintenance and as things needing to be done to my "ru" Ive taken care of what I can. However, I am not a mechanic nor do I pretend to be one! As far as what I recall, my vehicle has: 1. Very low compression 2. Blueish-grey smoke out of the pipes 3. Low ideal I had the carb. reworked a couple times So, yes I started it last season and it turned over then kaput! nothing! My goal is to figure out what is going on and try to care for it, I have my users manual and the book How To Keep Your Subaru Alive. But, no tools just a little money to put towards this little cutie of a car. but i would like to get an over all picture of what needs to be done.
  10. i have an '81 GL Hatchback, its not running now. torn about what todo!
