  1. I think this question has been answered, I just couldn`t find it. So my separater plate on my 2001 forester has 70,000 miles on it and is not leaking. Whats your advice?. change it? or let it go? Thanks
  2. I hear what your saying, and by the way it`s oil instead of colant thats licking from head. So if I understand would be a waste of time to get a leak down test to provide head gasket failer? Since it would proble show good on that side. Thanks,
  3. Yes I have and they asked for pictures, so I send them. They also may need a leak down test thats why I was asking if a leak down would show failed. Thanks
  4. Ok, if thats the case then getting a leak down test requested by the company will not prove a defected haed gasket there for doesn`t need replaceing they may claim. They told me befor I purchased it that it had been checked out. I was trying to get them to pay some of the expence. Thanks, Roger
  5. Hello, I may need to do a leak down test on my 2001 forester 2.5 engine,(for warrenty coverage) I called a local shop and they said the push rods have to be removed, to make sure the valves are seated.? Is this true for this modle? Or is it not nessarey? The cost is $100. This motor is from a salvage yard and has 70,000 miles on it, and it`s replaceing my old one which spone a bearen. I haven`t installed it yet. And it is leaking Oil from the drivers side head gasket. And what is rear separator? Thanks, Roger
  6. Great, thank you for your help. I have a question. How do I locate Subaru on the head gasket warranty you talked about? This engine has 70,000 miles on hopefully it will qualify. And what is a rear separator? and all the components? like all the wheels and tension, the Subaru mechanic said it would be OK. Your advice?
  7. OK, I have an engine I purchased online that has 70,000 miles on it to replace my old one, (2001 forester). After research I saw where head gaskets are a problem, and I noticed this engine is leaking on the driver’s side; it’s dripped several drips while setting on the stand! The mechanic that’s helping me said they need to be replaced before we put it in the car. I called the company and they wanted pictures and may need a leak down test, (which cost a $100 locally). So I sent pictures to the company today, which I have a 6 months warranty parts and labor... So my question is if the company decides not replaced the head gaskets, how long will the engine run, I mean will it get worse and smoke? Quiet? Run hot? Within 6 months? Just asking for advice before I talk to the company. Thanks, Roger
  8. Is there a O ring on the oil pump shaft near the oil seal behind the gear the timing belt runs across? If so can it be replaced easly while replaceing the oil seal? It`s a 2001 forester 2.5 Thanks, Roger

  12. Ok thanks, I also noticed when I removed the timing belt cover, on the block theres that black dus/oil stuff, where it coming from and what do I need to replace? Thanks, Roger
  13. Ok I`m replaceing the clutch and company, minus the flywheel. Can I clean the flywheel with carb. cleaner? And is there a way to determind if the flywheel is true and in good shape? Thanks, Roger
  14. And I want to check the compresion does it matter which way I turn the motor? I have it out on a stand.
  15. Sorry for the confusion, The other engine i`m putting in has 70,000 miles on it, and my clutch that I have in the car has 55,000 miles on the clutch. They said they had a problem with the clutch padle staying on the floor, and they had the clutch worked on, and thought it corrected it. So are after market clutch kits ok?
  16. Thanks gentlemen, I have another question. I`m going to have the head gaskets, valve cover, spark plug seals, timing belt and water pump replaced, are there any other gaskets or seals I need to have replaced? And what about the timing belt tenchiner? The clutch/presure plate has 55,000 miles on it, do I replace? Are the after market ones ok to use. The motor has 70,000 miles on it. And I want to check the compresion does it matter which way I turn the motor? I have it out on a stand.

  18. Hello, I am replaceing my engine in my 2001 Forester, and the replacement engine has a oilfilter cooling canister above the oil filter with 2 lines coming out of it, one to the bottom of the block and the other to the thermostat housing. What this unit for? My old engine doesn`t have it. Thanks, Roger
  19. Hello, Can anyone tell me if there is a way to tell if the engine and vin match, like did this engine come in this car from factory? Thanks, Roger
